so I was in Sainsbury's with my mum who was somewhat excited by the prospect of 25% off all clothing until Monday...

There was an alright-looking skirt in there ... £20, so £15 after the discount ... very similar to the kind of things you see in White Stuff - brown cord, a-line, to the knee, bit of a flower motif thingy embroidered on the front

So I thought, may as well try it on at home, might look okay with a l/s tee and brown boots, certainly handy for breastfeeding if worn with the right top blah blah

So I grab a 12... and it doesn't do up!!!

okay, fair enough, I had a baby on the weekend but it was still a shock ... anyway, my question is:

do I keep the 12 in the expectation that it will fit in a few weeks?
or buy a 14 to fit now and hope that it hangs in a louche manner on my hips in a few weeks?

WWYD?

chattermouse · 01/10/2009 22:20

Oh baby is gorgeous! Enjoy the precious tiny cuddles with him!

Right, re the skirt. Thanks for the pic. I take your point re the flower, that is too pronounced to come off without ruining skirt. I like it but it is very A-line. I've just bought a boden (iknow, iknow!) A-line skirt and i am struggling a bit to decide if i like the shape. It is quite extreme. I am not sure if A-line is a bad idea. I think it makes hips and legs look wider than they are. That said i love the pattern on it so still undecided at mo. Guess i am not used to that shape.

What are your thoughts on a-line (assuming you hsve time to type and breastfeed all at once of course ?

vickiadele · 01/10/2009 22:25

I would keep the 12 cos it will def fit you soon, but get a 14 aswell if you can, you are so lucky to be out and about i was ill in hospital for a week, you will be fine if you are able to be that active, sooo jealous!!!

vickiadele · 01/10/2009 22:26

Oh and congrats x

traceybath · 01/10/2009 22:31

Gorgeous baby not so gorgeous skirt - sorry but you are so not an embroidered flower/skirt person. Get back to netaporter forthwith

I always have post baby body dysmorphia it goes something like this:

Day one - shock at deflated tummy which is still huge

Week two - feel like a super model as tummy going down nicely. Followed swiftly by realisation am still a stone or so over normal weight and those jeans are not doing up.

Week ten - where I am now. Back in pre-pregnancy clothes but very untoned and with substantial muffin top but too hungry from bf to do much about it.

cazzybabs · 01/10/2009 22:33

LTEC - we snapped weddng dresses

LetThemEatCake · 01/10/2009 22:44

which Boden skirt? link please!!!

I am a definite pear, but a tall one, and I tend to think that A-line and pencil skirts work on me quite well ... definitely not straight skirts ... having said that, the length has to be right or the whole thing falls apart. What shape/ height are you?

I dunno, for £15 it might do for the park ... I'm definitely a dress girl but there's only so many dresses that work when bfing .. and I hate wearing jeans day-in and day-out ...

LetThemEatCake · 01/10/2009 22:46

cazzy - we had the same wedding dress???

tracey - I'm not, am I??? god my mum has been here a week and I'm rocking out on the M&S scarf and Tu skirts ... heeeeeeeelp!!!!!

LOL at your body dysmorphia! and at being in pre-preg clothes at week 10!!!

OP posts:
cazzybabs · 01/10/2009 22:53

This is the skirt here: www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Skirts/Knee-Length-Skirts/WG348/Womens-Fun-Skirt.html

But that picture does not show reflect how A-line it actually is. I am 5ft 9.5 (so quite tall). A size 8 on top half and a size 10 on bottom half. The skirt hits me bang on mid knee. I am fine with my knees and calves, they are skinny and look ok. I think the pics of the skirt on the website have been doctored a bit. The skirt must have been pinned on the model or something. I like it because the colours in the circles mean that I can match any one of tonnes of plain tops and cardigans of various colours that i already have. It fits well on the waist and hip but then it flares out in a mental fashion! Maybe it is too big for me but i would not get into the size 8.

chattermouse · 01/10/2009 23:12

Lol at your mum's influence! There is nothing wrong with a bit of M&S. The new Indigo collection stuff is quite nice. I mean to try on some of the denim skirts.

KristinaM · 01/10/2009 23:25

not keen on the skirt i'm afraid

i think you should return the skirt but keep the baby - he is gorgeous
