Jeggings, treggings and skinny jeans.

Can we have a general discussion? I know it has been done before but I would like some reassurance.

I bought a pair of jeggings, but had never worn skinnies, because I was not sure they would look bad on me. I love the jeggings, but I am worried that I love them for the wrong reason, i.e they are appealing to my inner granny with the elasticated waist?

I am wearing size 10 jeggings bought cheaply from Tesco, I just wonder if I am doing the mutton dressed as lamb thing? I saw a teacher give me the very slow, and obvious, once over today when I was helping out - I felt truly judged. I was wearing purple patent ballet pumps, had my long skinny Zara cardigan on and a colourful scarf. I am curvy, 32F nork.

I am 36.

If I persevere with jeggings, will you all talk to me about skinnies and treggings?

What are best? (I know it is very subjective) The Tesco ones are very skinny on the calf but the waist is maybe a bit loose - I constantly feel the need to pull them up - which is not the most stylish look.

I am 36 and I would wear your outfit. I have these jeans as I prefer them to skinnies. You can still tuck them into boots and they also look good out of boots.
I am very tempted to buy some Topshop Martha jeans as they are often talked about on this board as being very good jeans.

AnotherBloodySugaBabe · 22/09/2009 14:27

I'm 32 and norky and I love leggings and skinnies. I get a fair few looks, but I put them down to jealousy .

I think treggings are a fairly hard look to pull off unless you wear with long tops / cardis to cover the bum. I only wear leggings with dresses, personally.

My mind remains open to treggings, though...

Unless you are dressed like Beverley Callard, I doubt you are 'mutton'. What does that word mean, anyway? Should we all be shopping in the Beige section of M&S after the age of 35?!

Deeeja · 22/09/2009 14:44

What are treggings?

brokenspacebar · 22/09/2009 20:23

I have Martha jeans, and I do like Topshop for trousers - I was looking at their jeggings today, but fear they maybe too long for me.

Thank you for the reassurance, I was not dressed in a way that I thought would have deserved such a look, but it was almost funny.

I live in the sticks and people tend to live in fleeces, so I have no one to tell me if I look okay or awful, 'cept my family, who only tell me I look fine/nice.

Treggings are trousers meets leggings, like jeggings are jeans meet leggings type of thing.

I am in my 40's and I have a pair of treggings from TopShop, quite thick and heavy material and not too stretchy

I also have a thinner, very stretchy pair of jeggings from TK Maxx (obscure brand). They are soooo comfortable but a little more flimsy, more like thick tights really

I always wear long tunics or dresses with 'em as well as a long-line cardi

The rule is never, never show your camel-toe nor your arse

On my feet, depending on weather, I have worn gladiator sandals, when very scruffy, flip-flops, converse or biker boots

brokenspacebar · 23/09/2009 10:26

Watching out for camel toe

maybe teacher was looking as she/he was admiring you?

bethoo · 23/09/2009 10:29

i have never heard of jeggings or treggings! i thought leggings were leggings no matter what colour or material! i am way behind the times but then i am in maternity wear!

bethoo · 23/09/2009 10:32

surely jeggings are skinny jeans then and trggings are tight trousers> are thye labelled as 'jeggings' and 'treggings' this is all new to me and a bit of a mystery! >

moodlumthehoodlum · 23/09/2009 10:37

Dexter those next jeans are ACE.. I have a pair and they are perfect.

brokenspacebar · 23/09/2009 10:50

bethoo, jeggings are made with denim, but don't have a zip/button fly, but have a legging waist band i.e elasticated... not to be confused with denim coloured leggings.

same with treggings - they have elasticated waist band but trouser material not jersey style legging material.

They are way more comfortable than jeans imho.

cheese it wasn't an admiring look, I was being studied! I wish I could have made a smart remark.

bethoo · 23/09/2009 12:33

thank you brokenspacebar. ut are the elasticated waist tight so that it gives the impression of two tummies iykwim? may look into these when have baby if still in trend as i obviously am not!

brokenspacebar · 23/09/2009 13:59

No, they don't do that two tummy thing, they rest mostly on my waist, but I do have to pull them up - Tesco size ten quite generous on the waist imho. I suppose trying on lots of different pairs would help, to find the right pair.

I think they're a great idea esp with flats and boots.
I don't like anything too tighfitting and can't imagine they look good on most people without some bum coverage. Your outfit sounds fine, don't know why the once over.
I find Topshop skinnies do the saggy arse teenager thing. Gap are better.

brokenspacebar · 23/09/2009 14:20

Thanks belley, that is good to know re Topshop, though my nearest Gap is a three hour journey away.

I might try DP, they have a pair of jeggings for £22, in petite range.

OP posts:
soopermum1 · 23/09/2009 21:51

I have DP jeggings and they are fab. great for wearing with boots

belleymum · 24/09/2009 16:40

Or on second thoughts - maybe it's just my saggy arse!

Olisqueen · 08/12/2009 11:11

I know this thread is old but I also purchased the Tesco jeggings but in a 12. The elastic in the waist on mine seems to have completely gone. I bought them 4 weeks ago but have hardly worn them. I'm going to speak to the clothing manager at the store. I no longer have the receipt or tags so don't know what they'll say.

faustina · 08/12/2009 11:58

I have the next ones - 18 quid, denim, real back pockets. I wear them with long jumpers etc, and boots. They're brilliantly comfortable and look fine. (I have asked) Not sure I'd have worn them last year when I was bigger than now though. I've seen others in different shops which seemed much flimsier - don't think you could wear them on their own really

Duritzfan · 08/12/2009 17:33

Hi all,

having just had some advice froma stylist friend of mine I have bought some skinny jeans from warehouse - and I am in love ! The others she recommended were TopShop Jamie jeans.. they were gorgeous too - but the warehouse fit me perfectly ( size 12 )
