I want to thank whoever it was that mentioned this method in a thread a while back. I googled it and have started the no-poo method, it has absolutely transformed my hair. So thankyou, thankyou, thankyou whoever you were.

A wide-toothed comb with conditioner, or the D41 Denman brush

shinyshoes · 21/09/2009 19:12

Thanks BOF

Grandhighpooba, what I've been doing is completely rinsing all the conditioner out, then reapplying a tiny bit to the bits that get fluffy. But I'm still washing with shampoo...
Maybe you could try a "good" shampoo for a bit, while you are getting used to the whole deal?

Grandhighpoohba · 21/09/2009 19:26

Thanks BOF, also. Will try that - may have overdone the gel, am used to needing shedloads of products.

sleepsforwimps · 21/09/2009 19:38

Oh I never knew I was meant to leave some conditioner on it.. shows how much I know, i've been rinsing it out. Seems to be working for me though, I think just adapt this method to suit your hair. I also brush my hair whilst the conditioner is on, I used to use an afro comb but last few washes i've used a Denman D3 brush. Please don't ask me the difference between a D3 and a D4 I haven't a bleeding clue, I just went in Boots and purchased what i'd read other curlies use.

I'd just like to say I did my last poo wash this morning, conditioned with Original Source Conditioner, combed it a tiny bit (or else my front cowlicks go all weird), put some gel on and plopped it in a pillowcase for about 20 min. Diffused it a bit and voila! have had lovely curly curls all day. Not a bit fluffy. Maybe a bit flat, but I can work on that.
You've all changed my life! Now to get DH on to it too- his frizz could use a make-over too

BitOfFun · 21/09/2009 20:34

Denman D3- suits some people, great at product distribution, apparently, easily available.

I can't find decent pics of the D41, but it's apparently the same but with fewer teeth, so perhaps better on more fragile hair. I have a wide-toothed detangling comb from Boots.

FlyMeToDunoon · 21/09/2009 21:06

D41

BitOfFun · 21/09/2009 21:07

Why couldn't I do that?

FlyMeToDunoon · 21/09/2009 21:09
Wink

Weeeelll. I plopped yesterday morning and today and it is fab, has give me lovely defined curls. But I still just don't get the not using shampoo thing - how does your hair actually get clean?

BitOfFun · 21/09/2009 21:38

I think it is mainly the conditioner, warm water and friction of the scalp massage. It's just less harsh than shampoo.

Rosesinautumn · 21/09/2009 22:03

Curl Harmony have some great cleansing conditioner that I've found cuts out the need for shampoo altogether. There's also some gentle shampoo on there, I've got a small bottle for using after swimming but I mostly use the conditioner.

So the conditioner does actually wash it (sort of)? I see

BitOfFun · 21/09/2009 22:36

Weeeellll, it does sort of suggest fisting to me...

So, ok then

It takes years to see the amount of filth I can read into things, years I tell you...
