Bikram/Hot Yoga - what do I wear?

Attending my first class next week. Teeny tiny shorts and bra top not really me. I've been told to avoid cotton as it will get ringing wet. Any ideas?

i've got a bamboo tshirt for running, very wickingy and soft. mine from amazon.

I used to wear cotton vest and cycling-type shorts - it doesn't really matter if you are wet, as this will help to cool you down and you won't really notice whilst you're doing it. As much skin as you can show the better though IMO.

I've been practicing for a long time on and off and have never been told not to wear cotton, I have these shorts and these vests amongst other things from the same company, bargainous in the sale.

Any legging and tee shirt will do while you are deciding if it is for you. Try to avoid tracksuit bottoms though as lots of the postures involve compression and all excess fabric will just get in the way.

Don't worry to much about what you are going to look like as you will be running sweat and purple, it's not really possible to look stylish.

Which studio are you going to?

Brasil sul some examples here is much loved by Bikram afficinados, but is a bit too teensy weensy for me.

CHOOGIRL · 17/09/2009 12:54

Thanks ladies for the ideas. I normally wear Sweaty Betty yoga stuff but will try Ellie Gray as it looks very bargainous.

I'm off to a new studio which is opening in South London. Been desperate to try Bikram for ages.

Hope you like it, let us know how you get on.

Hello soon-to-be Bikram person!

I posted with this enquiry and had lots of help.

In the end I found someone selling the kit of my dreams outside the studio that very weekend.

Cotton is OK but it does get very sodden.

So I have yamarama - a pair of shorts and some 3/4 leggings. I don't have a top yet, though I will. I thought I'd hold off and use the promise as an incentive to keep going!

They're made of spandex and lycra, which wicks away the moisture.

Hope you enjoy the class - remember to bring 2 towels and a large bottle of water!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/09/2009 14:33

Oooh that stuff is gorgeous cherryblossoms, blardy expensive though.

I don't know anyone who takes two towels after the first week, I go nearly every day can you imagine the washing?.

cyteen · 17/09/2009 14:38

Me neither WildThings, my bag weighs a ton otherwise! I just scum it home and have a shower there [smelly]

Hope you enjoy it Choogirl. I am going tonight in my usual knee length joggers and elderly vest.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/09/2009 14:47

I think I am going tonight too cyteen, if dp gets home in time, so might finally see you there.
