Is your wardrobe full of things you don't wear?

I was doing bit of a wardrobe declutter today, trying to get rid of things I don't wear. I try to do this fairly often.

Anyway I always find that I even after doing this, I think I only wear about one third of the things I own. Because there are always things I don't wear, but can't bear to get rid of because they are still nice or fairly new, but I just don't want to wear them for some reason...

Is it just me or is this fairly normal?

I am supposed to be having a major bedroom blitz today to make space for a new baby. I have got rid of 4 binbags of rubbish/jumble!

It has occured to me that when I go on holiday I manage fine for things to wear, and manage to take all my faves, so either I need waaaay more clothes, or 95% of my wardrobe is guff. I fear it is the latter.

We held a 'clothes swap' event to raise funds for our playgroup which was brilliant fun and a great way to get rid of clobber, although you do get back some more of course, but hopefully it fits! See BBC 'frock exchange' for ideas. I swapped for a couple of items that I have worn a lot but if I think about it I may not have necessarily bought. We plan to do another one but with children's clothes.

Doesn't anyone else have the same problem as me - I keep getting bigger and hold on to clothes in the vain hope I will lose weight again one day. Its meant to motivate me but certainly isn't working at the mo!

I am so pathetic that I keep all my most-used clothes piled on a chair, with occasional attempts to hang trousers and skirts over the back so they donñt get too horribly creased. then i just use those and forget about all the others sitting unloved in their wardrobe(s) and chest(s) of drawers. When season changes (ie now) I actually open drawers to get out long-sleeved tops etc. Same goes for ds and dd´s clothes too. Rubbish, lazy and very messy, that´s me! Dh despairs.

Right have had clothes clearout.

Got rid of worn out but much loved linen skirt, dress that's too big and I will never alter, jumper that doesn't fit right etc.

Feeling quite pleased. Also did my make-up bag while I was at it. Love New Year .

I'm pretty ruthless with charity shop runs - but my one weakness is the Monsoon sale. Lots of lovely tops and posh dresses at 70% off - which I then buy and wear precisely once, but are too pretty and sparkly to get rid of...

Thanks to this thread I have just filled 5 bags for the charity shop ! I have accepted at just turned 40 I am never going to be a size 8 again . ( Have in fact been a 12 for 5 years !)
Thanks to whoever started this.
I am going to shop more selectively in future ...again
