October Wedding Outfit. Found a dress, but is it suitable and what would go with it?

I have tried on this dress and I think it suits me and it fits well.

I can't decide whether it is too evening-ey for a wedding, although knowing my friend I do think that it will be quite a smart affair.

Is it suitable, and, if it is, what should I wear with it? Of the two October weddings that I have been to one was a downpour, and the other was frosty and cold, so I think I need a jacket/coat/shrug.

Also wondering what shoes would go with it? I prefer flatter shoes as otherwise I tower over DH, and I can't stand my feet hurting these days.

I think it is lovely.
You need a pair of really over the top earrings and a sort of Liz Burton/Cleopatra style look for hair and make up. No necklace obviously, but a great bracelet or two. Gladiator type sandals might work if you have great legs, otherwise high sandals-silver. If you get ones with lots of straps, they are more comfy. sOMEONE LINkED TO A PAIR A while back that would have been perfect.

Wrap thing...hmmm. Have ot think about thT.

As I am a bag lady I won't offer my suggestions (by bag lady, I mean I dress like a tramp not that I'm into handbags! ).

Clure those are good, and I like the price too. Once I have bought the dress I hate the idea of shelling out a fortune on the accessories.

Sponge yes, no children invited . I am sure DH and I will have be able to relax and enjoy the wedding much more than if DS was tearing around.

Think dresses with necks like that can make you look like the side of a fridge so unless you are birdlike in proportions I would stay away.

And for an october wedding - you could end up with co-ordinated legs when they turn blue!

MadameCastafiore I'm not sure that I am birdlike as I am 5'9" and a 12-14. However I am quite flat chested (especially now that I have just about stopped BF). When the dress was on it seemed to suit my chest and shoulders without making me look droopy which some of the other dresses I tried on did do. Know what you mean though about having blue legs. It is a risk for sure.

Ali I am not sure about that dress. And the fabric makes me think it may crease very easily, and leave crease marks. But it is a lovely colour, and it would look nicer on ladies with a smaller bust.

Personally, I would go for something simular in shape but a but more.....like this and then wear this over the top

But in october yes it would be cold, but I guess you either fake tan, or go the other way and go for opaque tights

How about going for a short little dress and fab thick tights? Keep the neckline high? Dare I suggest something like this? with tights and black shoes?

I like it but agree that October is a problem re rights etc. Neckline similar to my wedding dress so can vouch for it being good for flat chested. Have you checked out designers at debenhams- like their stuff for weddigs?

Jewels you could well be right about the dress creasing. Although I love it, I am beginning to think that it wont work too well with a coat or jacket over the top. I do like the Ted Baker dress that you suggested, but it looks a bit shorter than the Monsoon one, and with the baby doll cut, it may not flatter my legs too well. I don't think I could go for the French Connection one though because my mother (rightly or wrongly) has always drummed into me that you should never wear black or white to a wedding. I am hard wired now to avoid black dresses. You got me looking at the Ted Baker and French Connection websites though, which was really helpful. I like red dress although it might be too straight to cope with my hips. I also like www.frenchconnection.com/product/Embelished/71HX2/Bex+Dress.htm, but not sure which colour I would go for. I like the idea of wearing it with opaque tights and some fab shoes.

Poppy I remember seeing a photo of your wedding dress on FB and it was gorgeous.

Here this with bright red shoes - if you get shoes that are not open toed you can wear tights.

Can I butt in and say that that embellished FC dress is gorgeous.

What's your colouring like? Not many people suit black unless they're blessed with pale creamy skin and very dark hair ('winter' colouring).

I'd get one of the blues if it was me, but you need to base your choice on your colouring.

Ali I LOVE that french connection bex dress. Think it would look great on and my favoutite is the navy and gold [but what colour tights?]

The red ted baker I did see, but was not sure if you were a frill person - I personally would be if I had lovely small boobs like you do. That is a fab dress though.

And madame yes that one is a great dress, beautiful print. I would wear with black opaques and red shoes.

All of those can be worn with a fab little fitted jacket that really hugs IYKWIM I am not a fan of shrugs or wraps. Like the fact that a little black jacket can look as great with a little dress, as with jeans, as with cord skirt etc etc...I have had mine for years and years and wear it all the time.

i was out with friends last night and one of them wore that ted baker dress that Mme linked to. it was lovely on her, but she is very petite and has boobs, so different shape from op. not sure red shoes would go having seen it in RL.....

OurLady there is a photo of me on my profile (albeit v. pg) I have light brown hair and brown eyes and tend to be quite pale skinned. I don't think black would work with my colouring and my Mum would be cross

Just took DH through all the options so far. Shouldn't have bothered. The FC Bex dress he thought was very "medieval"

If it was me, I've been looking at the Laura Ashley site and they have some pretty dresses, maybe too old for you young thing though!

Agree about the black Ali. The blues are good, as are the purples.

Mine still points out hand-knitted Bolivian cardigans, saying 'you could do with one of those' ffs!

If your eyes are brown, your colouring is warm, meaning gold rather than silver flatters you. That narrows the choice down a bit if you're still considering that dress.

Wish I knew what colour 'myrtle' is - I'm using an itouch so the screen us tiny. Might be worth trying.

And, fwiw, looking at your pics, you have an oval face with a high forehead - perfect for a 'medieval' style dress.

LOL Deb. Actually I have been thinking that the FC and Ted Baker options are all quite short for me these days. Neither site has a single dress that is even knee length let alone below the knee. Laura Ashley wins out on this front.

I think myrtle is purple, but I am on the iPod now so can't check.
