time to stop obsessing over my own wardrobe and face facts about dd's...

so DD (aged 3) was until recently quite happy to wear jeans and tops - so chilly weather dressing has never been a problem.

BUT, as happens to so many little girls (or so other mums assure me) she is now dress-obsessed (nowt to do with me and my influence, I'm sure) and can rarely be coaxed into anything but.

We've made it through summer with a good number of pretty sundresses (mostly sent by mum from various charity shops in Australia!!) but now I need to think: UK WINTER.

where should I look for nice, non-branded, non-logoed, non-sequinned, non-tarty dresses for her? Love all the Danish stuff but it's so boringly recognisable and stupidly priced, esp as she goes to an "arts-based" nursery 2 days a week where she gets covered in paint.

point me in the right direction please!!

I have generally gone with H&M with long sleeved tops underneath and leggings if really necessary.

DD has got a selection from Boden/Gap/Next/Debenhams/No added sugar and Joules (although Joules often do have some branding and NAS have a embroidered bunny logo)

Given the choice she'd wear a satin princess dress that skims the floor with a pair of clicky clacky plastic dressing up shoes so we compromise with little cord and denim dresses with long sleeved tees underneath and lots of different tights (her favourite being gap ones with teddy bear bottoms) or long sleeved no added sugar t-shirt dresses with the bustle backs (these are her favourite)

Would she wear skirts? Monsoon/Gap/Boden have some cute very plain skirts that are practical and go with lots.

h&m, boden is good. i occassionaly buy dd a boden dress in the sales. i normally buy too big and she can get about 3 years out of them.

think yourself lucky.my dd is 9 and wont wear dresses!!!!

i buy all secondhand for all 3.if it gets messy its fine,it normally washes out but if not its no great loss(ds1 would disagree after tearing his favorite tshirt whilst skateboarding!).

John Lewis had some nice stuff in last time I was in there. Jako-o have lovely things, but are a bit over-priced with the current strong euro.

cheesesarnie, I do lots of 2nd hand for the dcs too, but am having a baby in the next week or so and can't see myself having the time to look for a while .. had a bit of a last-minute ook last week but only got an £8.50 Paul Smith shirt for dh, plus 2 x Gap l/s tees for him (£1.50 ea) and a £3 French Conection cardi for me! I think online is my best bet for now, which is a bummer as I know H&M are good...

funny you should mention Zara .. just went on ebay and there were 2 minutes left on a rather sweet navy and white stripey Zara dress .. got it for £2.84!!!

mini mode in boots often do nice courdery dresses

Sainsburys's, Tesco, Matalan but you do need to sift through the tartier stuff. Thick tights and long sleeved tops.
