What is the general consensus on this skirt?

Saw this skirt/dress on a woman today and quite liked the look of it. It was looser on her than the model here which I think looked better, but I'm not really sure.... Thought it might be quite a good mooching around skirt, paired with either leggings and ballet flats (or converse) or boots when it gets a bit cooler. But I am really not sure.....convince me either way! Also, what is ASOS's quality like - never ordered from them before.

I personally don't like it. But then I had something similar when I was 17....

CybilLiberty · 07/09/2009 17:36

nah, not my cup of tea. Too girly. If you are under 20 I think it would be ok.

madeupsurname · 07/09/2009 17:40

I like it and don't think it would look too girly if it was styled differently - think it would look quite cool with a long sleeved dark colour T-shirt.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 07/09/2009 17:42

Not my cup of tea at all.

But if you like it buy it.

blametheparents · 07/09/2009 17:58

Dodgy.

Reminds me of Bananrama, but then they are making a comeback

Tortington · 07/09/2009 18:00

yeah - i couldnt wear it - but for a skinny 17 yo its lovely

traceybath · 07/09/2009 18:07

It would be very unforgiving on the hips.

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2009 18:16

nope

LetThemEatCake · 07/09/2009 18:16

I don't think much of it, really. Agree re: Bananarama. Although I do heart them

NoahFence · 07/09/2009 18:21

that is so utterly vile.

NO

squeaver · 07/09/2009 18:24

It looks like a dolls' house dress.

LynetteScavo · 07/09/2009 18:25

I wouldn't.

BlueKangerooWonders · 07/09/2009 18:27

Agree re Bananarama. I had one of those skirts (white!) when I was in the sixth form - and that was (ahem) more than 25 years ago. Can still remember wondering where the straps should go - over boobs/ between/ outside!11

AnAuntieNotAMum · 07/09/2009 18:30

I agree that it's for someone who is skinny and 17.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/09/2009 18:32

I wouldn't, I agree it is only for 17 year olds.

dairymoo · 07/09/2009 19:23

Erm.....okay, well, that's quite a uninanimous decision then!! What would I do without MN?!

In my defence, I don't really have hips to speak of (am quite boyish in shape) so thought it might give me some shape. However, wannabe teenage Bananarama fan is not a look I'm going for at the mo, so don't think I'll go for it afterall.

Suggestions instead then....just want an alternative to the boyfit jeans/vest/cardi and shirtdresses/leggings that I seem to be living in at the moment.

New Look do some nice skirts without the straps/braces thing don't they? Don't know for "hip-less" people though, I'm a pear shape and I find New Look one of the only cheap shops that caters well for my shape. Do worry that I look a bit mutton in some of it too though.

Elemental · 07/09/2009 21:54

God, yes, I had one of those in white too, in the late 80s. I think it could look pretty cute though, on a boyish figure (i.e. not me, all hips and tits)

Megglevache · 08/09/2009 13:49

Hmm agree it's like something that would look too try hard if you were over 20.

It looks like something an Amish girl would do to her skirt if she was a bit of a rebel.

slug · 08/09/2009 13:55

If I had your figure I wuold probably want to buy it. But then, I was a teenager in the 80s and I can safely say there is no way I will ever be described as having 'boyish' hips again.

HelenaBonhamCarter · 08/09/2009 13:59

Naw it's terrible, even if it looked nice on that person you saw...briefly...they probably hate it too, and it was the onl;y clean thing on their floor this morning

It is the work of satan
