And I cannot decide whether to go for:

Calf fitted ones that are functional like this:
nice and look comfortable

or these
am to drawn to them even though not sure I like them!

or just go for something middle of the road but still with a heel
something like these

OR

just get some fashionable biker style boots that are much cheaper and I can just throw away and buy some more next year (though I have skinnier than average legs so not sure that is a look I can pull off at all)

I don't like any of them much sorry. I'd say keep looking.

Nothing to do with what you spend your money on though.

LolaLadybird · 05/09/2009 21:51

I have 3 pairs of Duo boots (2 pairs bought when I was still working and had more disposable income) and think they are wonderful. My problem is the other end of the spectrum - v chunky calves - but their calf fitting boots are wonderful IMO. That said, I would steer clear of the Malmo boots. I bought them a couple of years ago and ended up taking them back once I'd had a chance to reflect at home - in the words of a trusted and v honest friend, 'they looked a bit like glorified wellies' and she's right, there is something a tad plastic-looking about them. That said, I would only wear them with jeans outside, not tucked in, so you weren't getting the full effect.

Think I'll have a browse on their website and see if I can't suggest something else (entirely for your benefit of course, not for any self-gratifying reasons! )

Jewelsandgems · 05/09/2009 21:56

Ooooh thanks Lola Yes, any help much appreciated, and thanks for the heads up re the malmo.

LolaLadybird · 05/09/2009 21:58

'Tis done - if it's functional you're after, I really like these or these.

LolaLadybird · 05/09/2009 22:00

Go on, you know you want to ...! (not living vicariously through someone else's retail experiences at all!)

dexter73 · 05/09/2009 22:58

I love these boots!!!

joliejolie · 05/09/2009 23:11

I would say the second pair...really nice and girly too. Duo last ages, so it's a good investment. I have a pair of Duo Malmo boots that I still wear 3 years after I bought them.

As far as not having any money and buying £200 boots...erm...so what? It is like having a baby, if we all waited until we had enough money, there wouldn't be too damn many kids in the UK.

Just budget and buy the boots you like.

Wonderstuff · 05/09/2009 23:11

I love my duo boots, I have skinny thighs and normal boots just look rubbish on me. They do look better irl than in the catalogue, don't know why with all the sizes they do they photograph the ones with big feet and skinny thigh fitting so they look a bit out of proportion??
Go for whichever pair goes with most clothes?

brokenspacebar · 05/09/2009 23:31

I don't like any of your choice in the OP, sorry.

I got a pair of black knee length boots in DP about 4 yrs ago, they are still going strong, £40. They are quite slim fitting, I couldn't wear them with jeans tucked in, I have slim enough legs, usually wear size 10 trousers. Maybe you could find something on the high street if you tried?

I also bought a pair from fat face, 3 yrs ago, they were rubbish, £80 iirc, always got wet feet if I wore them in wet weather.

Jewelsandgems · 06/09/2009 19:47

Lola I do like those two others but worry about if they are wearable with dress/skirts...?

That's why I like the malmo, can imagine them with lots of things, whilst still being chunky enough to wear in muddy puddles.

I may have to go for some from duo, but on my christmas list. I think that is the only way I can afford some. (And my DH is always willing to buy my present early, and gets me exactly what I ask for)

If you're skint, just get some boots from a cheap shop like New Look / Primark. Loads of styles - from slouchy to high heeled to cowboy etc - at about £25 a pop. I've got a pair of £30 New Look boots that are on their 3rd year now and have only been re-soled once at a cost of £8 - bargainous. £200 for boots you don't love is stoooopid.

Jewelsandgems · 06/09/2009 20:00

Well I want some that can be worn with dresses/skirts and jeans. Most of the jeans-tucked-in-ones look silly with dresses, whereas some slouchy ones can look too wide with dresses/skirts also. I will have a look on new look website right now

I would only buy boots which are meant to be snug fit on leg from a good shop, and be properly fitted, because there's no point buying some that I will not wear, only to buy some duo ones anyway (thus actually more expensive in the long run)

like these:

www.newlook.co.uk/1714949/171494901/ProductDetails.aspx would look good with dresses/tights/leggings yes?

I have had 2 compliments already this year about my 6yr old approx £45 boots from Next.
I did spend weeks looking for them though and tried on countless other pairs.
I think it is perfectly possible to find well fitting lasting boots on the high street but you need to do the legwork to find them and then look after them properly.

Jewelsandgems · 06/09/2009 20:08

Yeah that's the thing chewy, it is not easy finding time for that, with two little girls in tow....

NoahFence · 06/09/2009 20:14

i dont like the first ones look a bit middle of the toad. I too have slim legs adn cheap boots/ biker ones do look Welly ish>
i have been looking at the second ones you linked to - last year duo had some caramel " drummer boy" style ones with double row of studs up the front that all the assistants had on, they looked great.

Third ones also nice.
what about the Brindisi?

NoahFence · 06/09/2009 20:19

here schoon also have some
they look a bit weirdy here but were nice instore

Jewelsandgems · 06/09/2009 20:20

Yes noah, lola linked to those too and they are nice but I do worry that some of my floaty chiffony tea dresses may not look good with them. And since I wear these quite alot, would be a shame to buy some that do not go with my favourite clothes IYKWIM.

DKNY do boots like this every year (these are last years hence the price, they are usually abou 150).

I have a pair, they are really comfortable, a look good with dresses and skirts as well as jeans.

Jewelsandgems · 06/09/2009 21:01

macherie they look very interesting actually, how wide are they though? I don't have super-skinny calfs, but usually the high st norm are too wide for my liking. And I know you wear simular things to me , would you give the new look shoeboots a go? And then get a pair of quality boots for christmas present?

OP posts:
macherie · 06/09/2009 21:19

I couldn't do shoe boots, my legs would be too cold! This afternoon I was seriously considering taking out my winter coat and boots, it was so windy and cold at the park.

I need tall boots to keep me warm.

Mine were fairly snug on the calf when I got them, and I would consider my calves fairly average! The pair I saw for this season have a wide strap and buckle at the top of the boot so they might be adjustable.

macherie · 06/09/2009 21:22

This is the one I saw, in black

SixtyFootDoll · 06/09/2009 21:26

I bought last years boots in Peacocks in fact I bought 2 pairs as they wer 25 quid.
Lasted the winter - biker and cowboy style
Will be back for more thsi year, not leather but not obvious.
The 3rd pair of boots in yr OP were gopping - very old lady - ish
