Dresses for work

MrsBarbaraKingstanding · 28/08/2009 21:12

there are loads of geat work dresses around at the moment, kind of smart pinafores IYKWIM. BUT they all seem to have high slash type necklines that just does not suit the large of brears sucha smyself. I've tried on 4 diferent styles today in Mand S and all styles made me look likemy tits were growing out of my neck.

i want a smart work dress,

Any ideas??

budget and size??

MrsBarbaraKingstanding · 28/08/2009 21:17

Um,
Budget, uo to £100.

Size is complx, 12 ish top, 10ish bottom, so not easy in a dress.

there lies the problem.

I love dresses for work though, so smart and easy (no matching tops etc).

can't so high nrecaks,a s I've said.

i used to have some lovely pinanfores with low sqaur necks that i wore white shirts under, I want mor of those really, everything seems to be high necked, wjich i just can't do.

I like the M&S ones. There are loads around at the mo. Just try a few different styles. Have you tried Oasis, Warehouse, Zara? Or if your budget stretches a bit further, my favourite is Banana Republic.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 28/08/2009 21:19

I utterly heart this dress but you would need to try it on

I know it's £££ but you could wear once a week all through winter

RamblingRosa · 28/08/2009 21:19

Oh and H&M have got some cheapo ones

NorkilyChallenged · 28/08/2009 21:21

I've been interested in work dresses (though, as my name suggests, have the opposite problem with my shape).

However, everything I've seen so far looks like it's intended to be worn by itself (no tops underneath etc) and has been sleeveless which means exposing my upper arms. Not something I'm comfortable with since I noticed them flapping around independently as I waved bye bye to my children at nursery

Any links would be lovely! Sorry I can't help out.

MrsBKS, having written virtually the same on the tanktop thread, think you are my body double Will watch this thread with interest.

MrsBarbaraKingstanding · 28/08/2009 21:26

BALD I love that dress. That would so suit me and my tits. Do you have it? Is Planet in House of fraseer or John Lewis?

Mand S do have some great ones, i tried on lots today, but none good for my norks.

Norkilychalleneged I'm intending to wear those sleevesless dresses witha shirt or long sleeve T under. i couldn't inflict my upper arms on the world.

Aha, MrsBK, that is good to know - I did wonder if dresses were only for the young and the Michelle Obamas of the upper arm world!

Will have to try some on and see if they suit the totally flatchested smaller chest. Excellent excuse to buy some new work clothes!

Heated · 28/08/2009 21:40

Ghost, Warehouse, Oasis, Coast, Monsoon seem to fit me well, in that they expand and cling where they need to. Cannot fit into any top half from WhiteStuff/Gap without going up to a 14 and then rest just billows.

warehouse?
Coast?

janeite · 28/08/2009 21:45

Ooh I like the Coast dress. The Warehouse one would be a disaster with norks.

MrsBarbaraKingstanding · 28/08/2009 21:47

Ooooo, can't do polo neck with big tits Heated.

Coast one nice but more dressy than worky?

Agree, gap and zara make clotes for the flat chested bigger bottomed lady, that does not fit me well.

planet store locator here

I can't remember if the neckline is round or v but I urge you to have a look in RL, it's beautiful. Too long for me grrr(I am short arse)

Heated · 28/08/2009 21:52

Was hoping billowy arms on dress would let me get away with it, but yes, you're right.

wobbegong · 29/08/2009 23:55

Just bought a dress in Bravissimo today- fitted heavy black jersey, cap sleeves, scoop neckline, fancy stuff going on to hide tummy in clever fashionable way, no ties, very slimming, easy to dress up or down.

Oddly must have just come out as not on website yet so I can't link to it but do keep your eye out. It's £45. I have recently found Bravissimo clothes a bit horrid but this is a winner.
