What does one wear to an interview nowadays??

Ladies, you have helped me before and I know you can do it again!

I have an interview to go to next Friday and I don't have a clue what to wear. Does it need to be a suit? I'd prefer not to buy a suit as I'm unlikely to ever wear it again.

I have some black trousers (who doesn't?!) and shoes. Could I just get a top to go with them?

HELP!

I would wear them with a smart jacket.

Good luck!

Should it be a black jacket or another colour? It's ages since I've been for an interview!

Very much depends on the sort of job you are going for really as a smart jacket isn't always necessary IME.

It's a nursing post. I wish I could wear uniform!

I've just got myself a new job and it was the first interview I've not worn a suit to - buy yourself a smart new top and you can probably get away without a jacket at this time of year

Congratulations, bluejeans!

Think I'm going to have to go on a little spree tomorrow...

I recently had an interview for a public sector post and very, very few candidates wore jackets(the group task followed by individual interviews meant that I met about 15 of the others).

I wore black trousers with a smart top as did most of the others.

I had a job interview a few weeks ago. I wore a mid blue spotty wrap dress and a short blue jacket from Fenn Wright Manson. I had bright red patent shoes on and a big red bag to match. I got offered the job.

Wasn't traditional but was smart.

It was public sector too. I think if you feel comfortable you will feel more confident. I don't feel comfortable in suits as I'm quite petite and the tailoring is never quite right.

Good luck, and don't worry about standing out from the crowd (as long as it's for the right reasons!)
