Is the classic old lady "shampoo and set" becoming a thing of the past at last?

Have just been to have me hair done and there were the usual couple of old ladies having their weekly shampoo and set - but not half as many as there usually are.

There were a few more ladies of a certain age having just a quick short trendy cut instead.

And it just struck me, will the shampoo and set be a thing of the past soon??

Or will I suddenly feel I need one when I hit 65 (in about 23 years time). Is that what old ladies have to do??

My mum is 75 and has not had a shampoo and set since about 1957.
She has a nice short, slightly funky cut. The last time she visited I took her to my salon and the cut we chose for her was the Kiera Knightly elfin one ( if you remember that one). Looks really good on her. I bought her a dress from Whistles that week end too.
I should be so funky

Dress from Whistles - wow!

My hairdresser was saying the younger stylists aren't interested in being trained to do sets these days... it'll be a lost skill soon I guess.

My mobile hairdresser has an 80-strong client list and only does a couple of shampoo & sets. She has an old portable sit-under dryer for that purpose. The 'ladies of a certain age' tend to book a decent blow-dry once a week instead.

There is a lady at work, I have known for about 14 years who always has a shampoo & set. She's my age. Most odd.

my 85 yr old granny has her hair done once a week. She cant wash it herself anymore and it's sometimes her only outing from the house. It makes her feel good and is a nice treat for herself. I suppose as her generation pass on there wont be the need for it.
