Where is a good recommended tattoo parlour in the South East?

I want to get a tattoo of my ds's name or variation of but want to go to a good clean recommended tattoo place. I don't mind if it is expensive. I live in Kent but can travel to London if necessary. TIA

Don't.
Tattoos are so cheap and nasty and rough. /

thoroughlypissedoff · 30/07/2009 15:29

Thank you for your advice moondog, but I have already decided I would like to do this. Has anyone else got any suggestions? Thanks

could you just google recommended tattooists in kent they would surely advertise and have recommendations on there too from clients

look through these they may help

thoroughlypissedoff · 30/07/2009 16:29

thanks bubblagirl - I had already googled but there were so many that came up and I was just wondering if anyone had a good experience anywhere. Always good if you can get a personal recommendation for somewhere.

No offence but you might get more of a response if this thread was in a different section!

thoroughlypissedoff · 30/07/2009 21:40

I know I didn't really think it was right place to post but just didn't know where else to put it!!! Oh well, back to the drawing board!!!

Is Lal Hardy still doing tattoos in London?

MegBusset · 30/07/2009 23:33

I had a tattoo done by Dan Gold -- he was featured in that London Ink programme. He is an amazing tattooist and nice bloke and I would highly recommend him. He might be quite pricey now though!

mrsmerryweather · 31/07/2009 07:51

tattoos are yuck and cheap- why on earth deform your skin like that for LIFE? Will you love it when you are 70?
sorry I know this might offend but I just think they are gross.

I had mine done in Living Image in Greenwich on Trafalgar Road. They were brilliant.

Sparkletastic · 31/07/2009 10:29

James at Inka in Brighton is fantastic - there's a waiting list though as he's very popular. My friend had an absolutely beautiful flower motif on her foot symbolising her DCs and very subtly incorporating their initials.

mrsmerryweather · 31/07/2009 11:06

everlong- as someone else tactfully put it- maybe this is not the best forum "STYLE AND BEAUTY".

MegBusset · 31/07/2009 12:36

My tattoos are beautiful, thanks!

BTW when I am 70 my tits will be hanging down by my ankles, a couple of faded tats are going to be the least of my worries!

Angelic Hell in Frith Street, Soho. They're amazing, but you need to book a bit in advance.

I live miles from London now, but if I wanted another one I'd make the trip.

harleyd · 31/07/2009 14:42

you should go round a few tattoo studios and have a look at some of the work they have done, talk to them about what sort of design you are after

and its perfectly ok to ask strangers in the street where they had theirs done

Sheeta · 31/07/2009 14:43

p.s. I seem to recall that they're underneath a Chinese restaurant but don't let that put you off, they really are amazing.

A friend of mine had a large peacock feather tattoo done there a while ago, it's absolutely incredible.

jemart · 31/07/2009 16:34

Don't do it!
Tatoos are not stylish or beautiful, at best they are quirky more often than not they just look cheap.

Perhaps you could get a special piece of jewellery made instead, with your childs name engraved on it?

MamaLazarou · 31/07/2009 16:38

I can second Living Image in Greenwich.

Also, a bit out of the way, but Andy Barber on the Shannon's roundabout in new Malden, Surrey does some beautiful freehand work - will design whatever you like and he is ace.

(Bit rude of people to come onto this thread saying, 'Don't do it! tattoos are awful!', etc. After all, I keep my lip firmly buttoned at all your hideous UGG threads!)

GrapefruitMoon · 31/07/2009 16:41

Well that's why I suggested that Style & Beauty wasn't the best place for the thread - will attract the attention of all the Boden types!

RGPargy · 31/07/2009 16:43

Thoroughly - I can recommend Ray Hunt from Medway Tattoo shop. He is a brilliant artist!

It all depends on what style you are after tho. You will find that some tattooists specialise in certain types of art, i.e. dragons & mythical stuff for one guy and another guy might specialise in flowery stuff etc.

I would second what harleyd said and go to a few shops and look at their books.

One big piece of advice i will give you tho is wherever you go, dont be afraid to say if you dont like their design etc. I made the biggest mistake ever by not speaking up and because i didn't say "actually, i dont think the design is quite me, thanx anyway", i am now left with a naff tattoo (NOT done by Ray, i hasten to add!!!).

Hope you find somewhere soon!

MamaLazarou · 31/07/2009 16:43

Good point mate. After all, why bother being an individual when you can dress exactly the same as all your yummy mummy chums, eh? Not you personally.
