Need to start dressing like a grown-up. Where do I start?

I live in jeans, trainers and t-shirts and carry round a black rucksack style changing bag for dd.

Please help me understand the following things:

shoes
skirts
tops that aren't t-shirts or zip up hoodies
jackets
bags
general accessories

I have a bit of bonus cash to spend as I've been made redundant when I was about to quit to become a SAHM. I want a whole new wardrobe - where do I start?

anthroplogie looks like per Una to me

wem · 24/07/2009 14:18

Can't say I'm keen on any of those bags, tho the first comes closest, without the tassles.

Don't think I 'get' Anthropologie

I bought the most fabolous pair of skinny jeans yrs ago in Anthropologie. Is it really opening in London?

BadgersArse · 24/07/2009 14:52

Been off looking at bags.

What do y'all think of this?

Think I prefer their bag of the month (your choice a bit squishy for me, but hell, that's just my opinion......)

wem · 24/07/2009 17:49

too shiny

I like squishy

Love that squishy bag Wem. Bit of a bargain too.

I'm quite tempted. Not shopped online for stuff like bags and clothes much before. Seems odd to buy something like that without being able to give it a feel. Guess I can always send it back.

You mentioned flats earlier KingRolo, how would you wear the ones you linked to? With trousers? A skirt? My feet have been quite pampered over the years, not sure they'll take kindly to shoes without socks

My favourite place for grown-up clothes is Brora. Their normal prices are too high for me, but they have excellent sales (and have an online filter so that you can just see what they've got left in your size).

orangina · 24/07/2009 20:12

We can agree on jeans and not on bags

KingRolo · 25/07/2009 09:18

I think you can wear flats like those with dark jeans (but not pale jeans for some reason), with smart trousers, with leggings or if your legs are OK with a skirt.

If you wear them with leggings you need bare feet. You could get some insoles or those Party Feet things to help keep your feet comfy.

If you wear them with a skirt opaque tights are good.

With jeans and trousers you can go bare foot or do what I do in winter and wear knee-high tights. Just avoid the 'tan' type!
