How do you wear coloured eyeliner?

I'm late 30s and for about 10 years have worn dark brown powder eyeliner applied with a brush for a smudgy look, with black mascara.

I'm wondering if coloured eyeliner (and/or mascara?) might give me a more youthful look - some of the time at least. Obviously I don't want anything too loud or teenage.

What kind of eyeliner should I try? Upper/lower lids? With what mascara?

Green eyes, auburn hair.

i just got some pencils from Avon and they are fantastic. they were mega cheap too.

i think you get a deeper colour with liquid but it feels a bit sticky when you first apply it so i always tend to smudge it if im not used to it.

pencils nice
the glittery eyeliner ok for winter imo.
teh urban decay one is partic nice as its clear gel with glitter supsended in it so more subtle

I have similar colouring and I use a Boots No7 blue-grey one similar to the Lancome gris blue linked to by HotToast - don't find much difference in quality between Lancome and No7 ones...

ah
the no7 ones dont stay on as long fruity.

mamazon thanks for that tip! It worked beautifully! It seems to be all in the 'leaning back' technique!

~Admires perfect liquid eyeliner on upper lashes, and mascara where it should be (on lashes)~
