Funeral tomorrow - smart outfit without getting overheated?

A sad occasion tomorrow, DH's best friend's funeral He was only 33 and died suddenly, leaving 3 kids..
It is a 2 hour drive away, so we're going to get pretty hot.
Going to wear a black linen trousers, plain black cotton top and a black linen jacket. Taking umbrella in case we end standing around outside for ages.

My (stupid) question is - is it ok to wear plain black open toed sandals with a smallish wedge heel to a funeral? They're not 'evening' ones but they're the only thing I can think of that won't leave my feet swollen....

sorry bella, that is very sad.

yes sandals will be fine. do you need to do full black clothes? sombre and smart is the aim i should think.

Thanks fishie. DH is still in shock - they were so close, its going to be really difficult...
Well, I guess black because he was a bit of a goth and so am/was I so it kind of means something.
I'd really like to wear a medieval Dark Angel dress but it's velvet so that might result in heatstroke!

Perhaps I'm over-thinking this, probably obsessing so don't have to think about the actual funeral.

i kind of wish you could wear the velvet, but no it isn't practical. and overthinking what to wear is a good idea, this must be really hard for you.

black toenail varnish?

Varnish - good idea - will keep me pre-occupied for a bit.

Thanks fishie
