Would it be really expensive to get a skirt made to the same pattern as one I've already got?

It would be an easy pattern to follow I think. Has anyone done this? Its such a good shape and the perfect fit but I would like it in thicker cotton so people can't see my knickers!

I think it might cost more than you hope I'm afraid. If the dressmaker needs to block the pattern first. However if it's a good pattern for you it might be an idea to get several made in different fabrics at the same time. And she could still hold the pattern for you to do more later.

I was thining it might cost a lot oh well, probably beyond my budget as I wouldn't want to spend more than £40 at the most. It is such a good shape that I'd love a couple of them but only if it was affordable. I was hoping there might be a website that I could use, send the skirt off to them and choose the fabric that sort of thing but I am probably being too optimistic!

Could you get a petticoat?

Get a sewing friend to help you? It doesn't sound difficult.

The best thing you could do is find a dressmaker and ask for a rough quote. They you'd know the worst (or best). I don't know about online dressmakers. Have you searched?

what about doing a class at evening school or on a Saturday. Local colleges sometimes run a dressmaking or pattern cutter course.

used2bthin · 24/06/2009 13:42

I've tried googling but keep coming up with patterns! I am not remotely crafty so wouldn't want to do it but possibly could ask someone I know to do it. I'd have to pay of course though and wouldn't want them to feel they couldn't charge me full price. So may be easier just to find a dressmaker maybe I should google them instead.
