Shall I buy my 12-year-old DD this dress?

She spotted this and liked it - she is very picky as will only wear red, black and purple.
I am not sure, and am not sure why I am not sure, IYSWIM?

I would buy dd that (11) in the largest size they do so it wasn't so clingy and then I would specify she could only wear it with leggings. I think its too adult looking, tight and without leggings.

Are you tempted because it only costs a fiver?

i'd want to know how she intended to wear it first... it could go either way, that one...

Thanks. I think my reservation is that it is a bit figure hugging. However, she doesn't, as yet, have a figure to hug, in that sense, and as you say would probably wear it with thick tights or leggings and Converse.

I wore jumper dresses (yes I'm that old) around 11 and 12 years old, this reminds me of them.

I didn't go on to join the Pussycat Dolls so I think your DD will be fine.

In all fairness, perhaps that picture in the link does it no favours. (Stares at the see-through bit between the tops of the legs). Perhaps it would look lovely dressed up with leggings or coloured tights.

If it was see through, then def to go over leggings or skinnies. dd1 will often wear a vest top under anything slightly see through

I'm torn. I can't decide if it's a long Breton Sweater Dress or a Tarty Little Number. I think if you wore it without tights of leggings, you would need freexing cold, thin, purple, blotchy legs to complete the look.

No more figure-hugging than a shaped t-shirt. Not especially adult-looking. Wear with jeans or leggings. It's fine, IMO.

I think, worn loosely with leggings or footless tights and black PE-type pumps it could be v cute in a Minnie the Minx way. It comes in black and white too by the look of things and is probably a bit less 'mature' looking in that version.

My dd went shopping with her big sister (no adults) for the first time yesterday (agh) and came back with this which is actually really lovely (and very Vivienne Westwood) but the wrong colours for your dd!

I like that Janeite. Too fancy for DD though! I have ordered the dress now, and I think if she wears it over thick tights or her black skinny jeans it will be fine.
She has the curves of an ironing board and lives in Converse so no chance of mistaking her for Lolita I think.

What size do you think 'age 14' is in grownup sizes? I like some of the teenage stuff...

AGE 14 would be no less than an 8, I'd say
