Ok, if you were 5'2, size 12-14 what would you wear for a 50th birthday party in social club type function room ??

Because I have no idea.

I want to look nice, but have recently put on weight, gone from a 10 to 12-14 and so I have to buy something as nothing else fits.

Oh and i have biggish boobs, E cup.

Something confidence boosting would be good, if that exists.

Navy trousers with high heels and a navy v-ncek wrap top. Loads of silver jewellery? Or instead of the trousers, a knee length skirt. Get it shortened if you have to. I'm your height. It's worth it. On the knee, sexy and petite. 2 inches below the knee dowdy and frumpy. It'll be a tenner well spent.

Hmm have never worn navy before, not sure it would suit me. Could try it though.

I was going to wear my beloved white linen trousers, but they are now too small.

Would i look really daft in a maxi dress, what with me being short ??

No. Don't do maxi. Not unless you are size 8/10. sorry to be blunt. I tell it how I see it in the mirror. I only look tall in knee length dresses. I use the term tall loosely. Navy is classy and slimming and less severe than black. I have tons of navy in my wardrobe.

All one colour good though. Loads of nice shirt dresses about at the moment. what's your colouring??

NervousNutty · 01/06/2009 20:29

No no, blunt is good

I have dark brown hair, and brown eyes and currently have a nice slightly tanned colour lol.

I agree, not maxi, I am also short & anything too long makes me look like I am going out in my Mum's old clothes from the dressing up box .

If it is your sort of thing & your budget runs to it Get Cutie in Brighton make the most fabulous kneelength 1950s style dresses which make you feel like a petite hollywood starlet rather than a shortarse! You have to avoid the patterns with skulls (unless you are an emo teenager of course) but they have some lovely fabrics apart from that .

janeite · 01/06/2009 21:16

No to a maxi.

I would probably wear fab jeans and a silk cami, with heels. Or a fairly simple dress but with pretty shoes and jewellery.

norktasticninja · 01/06/2009 21:17

IMHO as a 5'3" 12-14, a damn good bra is the most important thing. If your norks are right you waist will look much longer and slimmer.

NervousNutty · 01/06/2009 21:25

Ah ha, i fear you are right about the norkage. I have put most of my weight on those and my belly and it really shows.

I have got one well fitting bra and then the rest are shite tbh as I keep getting bigger and bigger and so can't afford to keep buying pricey ones.

Ta for the link Takver, but not my kind of thing tbh.
