Pixie dress

I need to buy or make an adult pixie outfit for a party. I'd like a dress really, but anything would do right now!

I would prefer to make one (as I can only find expensive ones to buy atm), but can't find any kind of pattern.

I can adapt a pattern if anyone has suggestions, I want to make it in a cotton/lycra jersey type fabric, and it needs to have a fitted(not overly shaped though, I need it simple) top, flowing out from or just below the hips. I am hopeless at searching for patterns, so maybe someone out there already knows of one they can point me to?

Or maybe some lovely person knows of a 'pixie wardrobe' pattern set- unlikely I know

Thanks!

Why not use jammies, and ragged up the hem and cuffs, perhaps add a frill to the hem and neck of the top?

Add a wee hat with a berry on top
(a beret with a berry, oh my sides)

And suede boots

(Obv haven't googled yet, so no doubt I will look like a twit in a mo)

Poppity · 29/05/2009 17:30

I could do that, but I need to be, well, a sexy elf iykwim

gah you didn't say that

Oh you mean an adult pixie

Hope you laughed at my berry/beret joke, I've been waiting for years to wheel it out

Right, off to google for you

Poppity · 29/05/2009 17:52

Oh, I see what you did there now

Thank you!

My daughter does have a beret with a berry as it happens....

OP posts:
BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/05/2009 17:55

that is lovely

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/05/2009 17:55

More of a dryad than pixie

TigersChick · 29/05/2009 17:58

Ah.
I thought you were meaning more like this

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/05/2009 18:05

hmmm

nothing on Simplicity

this is hard

Weegiemum · 29/05/2009 18:16

There's these

Not sure if thats what you mean!

Poppity · 29/05/2009 18:31

I know, I hadn't thought of dryad, been trying all sorts of pixie/elf/fairy names! Maybe nymph would turn something up...

Tinkerbell style would be ok too. I think I prefer the more ethereal look though, and that would be trickier to make I think.

I had seen that Susumama site thanks weegie, that's my back up I think. They're a bit much, I wanted to be sleeker somehow.
I think I am being a bit too set on making something slinky in cotton jersey, I need to open the criteria a bit!

At festivals you always see those hippy t shirt dresses with the raggedy bottoms, I used to have a few. I just thought they wouldn't be that tricky to make(they seem v expensive on line and in local hippy shops)as I wouldn't need to hem t shirt fabric and I could shape it quite simply with the stretch.

I just need a guide pattern really of that kind of fit and flare stretch dress, but I can't seem to find one. I am not good enough to make up my own pattern.

And a pointy hood, I'd really like a pattern for a pointy hood.

Sorry to be difficult

cookielove · 29/05/2009 18:37

when you say pixie do you mean something like tinkerbell, this is what i was thinking?

Poppity · 29/05/2009 19:34

Not really, more like hippy pixie, see the link above

OP posts:
Poppity · 29/05/2009 19:37

Ok, perhaps instead I should be asking for a simple fit to the hips then flare out pattern without too much structure that I can make in cotton jersey?

I am rubbish at finding patterns...

I once saw a woman at a festival who looked absolutely brilliant. She was the closest thing to a real pixie I've ever seen.

She had good quality pointy ear pieces made of plastic, a green waiscoat, topless underneath it, short hair and some sort of green trousers.

She was very pixie-like anyway.

geordieminx · 29/05/2009 19:42

£15 on ebay job done

moonmother · 29/05/2009 19:57

I've found a few ideas here
www.sharpe-designs.com/dragonesque-sale.htm

www.moonbeamclothing.com/dresses-10-c.asp

www.pixiepixie.com/fairy-dress/cat_3.html I think this ones best- reasonable price . The dress on your first link has a underskirt which is sold seperately, so you could find an underskirt for this one too and it's got a hood

if none of them are any good do a google search for pagan/elven/celtic dresses - you'll get hundreds

FlyMeToDunoon · 29/05/2009 19:59

I bought one of these recently. Not too expensive and could be adapted maybe.

FlyMeToDunoon · 29/05/2009 20:00

They also have this one

Spidermama · 29/05/2009 20:08

Great thread. I'm a big fan of pixie fashion.

Spidermama · 29/05/2009 20:10

I always visit the Lotus Moon stall at festivals. They have lovely stuff and they're also ethical and green.

moonmother · 29/05/2009 20:22

OOh Spidermama there is some lovely bits on there

I love the pixiecoats- might have to order myself one of those
