oh no, I think I've come over all allergic to hair dye, how am I going to hide the grey now?...

Seriously, it's only a semi-permanent, but my head is tingling all over (have rinsed it all out, very thoroughly).

Had this once before, but put it down to a dodgy box of dye, as it also did terrible things to my hair colour, and the tingling was far worse.

What am I going to do? Henna or nothing, forevermore?

were you at the hairdressers or did you do it yourself? Maybe you left it on a bit too long? Maybe you can try a different brand. I've had that unpleasant itchy tingling with one brand but others have been fine.

BonsoirAnna · 28/05/2009 16:51

Grey is fab! Just make sure you get a very good hair cut.

same thing happens to me also semi-permanent

I get itchy bumps all over my head lasting for days.it is gradually getting worse .

I spoke to my hairdresser about it and he said I could still get highlights done as the dye does not touch the skin ,so that's what I am going to do.

I haven't got much grey but any is depressing to me unless it's a lovely all over silver colour..amd tbh I think I'm too young still for that.

brimfull · 28/05/2009 16:57

my hairdresser warned me it could get worse every time and it would probably still happen with henna

CaptainKarvol · 28/05/2009 17:07

It was a home dye (Boots). I was wondering about highlights - may have to go that way.

I like grey, just not the inbetweeny stage, and I have very dark brown hair, so each grey really shows. Grrrr. I dream of a really good haircut...

Horrified that it might happen with henna too

come to think of it, it was a semi-permanent that I had problems with but otherwise not (since I don't ahve much grey I use those ones that last 8 washes or so), and if the hairdresser does it, I have no problem with a regular dye. They must get different products

cookielove · 28/05/2009 17:14

def think it will happen with henna to, but also am sure i have heard of a make that have none of the ingredients that cause the allergic reactions however i don't think it last as long. For some reason i think these are called php's but could just be pulling that out of thin air, i think bascially its like hair dyes version of lush??? make sense?

brimfull · 28/05/2009 17:36

I used boots organic one and have used all sorts ,reaction has been gradually getting worse.

georgiemum · 28/05/2009 17:37

Would Henna work?

I saw a schoolgirl yesterday at the bus stop who had quite a few grey hairs - really!

macherie · 28/05/2009 18:29

this stuff is really good for covering greys, I got it after reading the queen of haircolouring Jo Hansford recommend it in a magazine. Unless you haves LOTS of greys I don't see why you couldn't use it as an alternative to dying.

There is a hair dye that you can buy at Holland & Barrett, or from www.naturesdream.co.uk (?) called naturtint. It does not have all the rubbish that normal colourants have (apparently normal ones can cause cancer). It is recommended for cancer patients, so would have thought it would be more gentle.
