Pardon the pun, but finally plucked up courage to go for threading.

There I was, in the middle of a major department store, tears streaming down my cheeks!
Pain wasn't too bad though, and much worse for top lip than eyebrows.
It's so clever, and money well spent as now feel very groomed!
Anyone else had it done?

I get my eyebrows done (£4 in my local salon!) much less painful than tweezing. Or rather, as painful but over much more quickly.

Jux · 28/05/2009 15:47

Threading? What is this threading thing?

HullabaLuLu · 28/05/2009 15:52

I have my eyebrows threaded at an Asian beauty salon and its something I am always compliment on. It costs £8 and she does a great job.

I noticed that Harvey Nics and Debenhams do it now. I'm not sure I could have it done in public (you're braver than me hairtwiddler). My eyes stream and I usually get a headache from clenching my jaw!

Worth it though. It makes a big difference and I agree, it feels very groomed.

leothelioness · 28/05/2009 15:52

I love threading, much nicer than waxing on the face.

hairtwiddler · 28/05/2009 16:16

It wasn't too busy where i had it done today but the woman said there is often a big crowd on a Saturday. I remember watching a man having enormous bushy eyebrows done while his wife stood over him with arms folded!
Jux - it's hair removal using cotton thread. They twist it and trap the hairs - like plucking lots at once.
Cost £20 for upper lip and eyebrows. Quite expensive but suspect that was major department store cost. May try to find somewhere cheaper.

Oooer. Sounds ghastly. Don't think I'm man enough!

hairtwiddler · 28/05/2009 17:04

Wasn't too bad I thought. although was a bit red around the eyes afterwards!

I also get my eyebrows threaded at a local Asian hair salon. I absolutely love, it is like a mini facelift

tiredsville · 28/05/2009 18:53

I tried it for the first time a few days ago, eyebrows were fine but I couldn't take the pain on the upper lip near the nose, she had to stop. So I just had the bottom lip done. Eyes were streaming. I also had the side of face done. I would definitely go again, but no one is going near my upper lips next time!

traceybath · 28/05/2009 18:56

I've had my eyebrows done a few times and not found it too painful - much neater result than from plucking/waxing.

MamaHobgoblin · 28/05/2009 19:27

Mmmm. I've wanted to try it since I read India Nit raving on about it, although she did say you should always get an Asian beautician to do it because they've got the experience. We live in rural white heartland (the BNP'd love it ) so not any asian beauty salons locally. I think I need my lip doing - tweezing is making it worse!

Wilts · 28/05/2009 19:33

I had ours done at our towns annual Mela with a crowd of people watching!

I think it is amazing to watch, I couldn't believe the precision mine were done with.

Who would think it possible with a bit of cotton

barbarapym · 28/05/2009 19:39

I'm a recent convert. Our local House of Fraser has a special eyebrow bar set up with three girls threading. It's loads less painful than plucking or waxing, and you get a really neat result - plus it only takes about 5 minutes. I've got a loyalty card....6 threads for the price of 5..!

hairtwiddler · 28/05/2009 19:41

I know! I kind of wished I could see her doing me - was fascinated.
The lady told me it took her about 3 months to do basic training but that you need lots of practice.
I'm a convert. Have no idea how much it costs in comparison with waxing though. Upper lip was £9. Both lip and eybrows £20 package. They do a deal where if you get it done five times you get the 6th free!

Does the hair grow back any slower?

whooosh · 28/05/2009 19:43

Love it althought it is more painful thena waxing.Do a search on YouTube and learn to do it yourself

warthog · 28/05/2009 19:45

i do it. i don't think the hair grows back any slower. i have it done every 3 - 4 weeks and i'm not a hairy gorilla.

hairtwiddler · 28/05/2009 19:46

magnolia - will report back in a few weeks! Was told need to have it done about once a month but some people it lasts longer.
She also seemed to know by looking at my hairs how painful it would be!

rubyslippers · 28/05/2009 19:47

i used to have it done - but my salon has stopped

you get the best eyebrow shape with threading

have had to go back to waxing

Unicornvomit · 28/05/2009 19:49

I had it done once and it was the most agonising thing i have ever been through, including childbirth ! never again.. finish is amazing, but the pain >>holds head in hands at the memory>> it was awful

forkhandles · 28/05/2009 19:52

sorry to hijack, but PSML at your (new?) name Unicornvomit - who did you used to be? I take it it's from the Lelli Kelli thread?

forkhandles · 28/05/2009 19:53

*PMSL

Unicornvomit · 28/05/2009 19:55

sorry, yes, it's lulumama!!

my DD has many pairs of unicorn vomit shoes, so it only seemed right to rename myself in their honour

cluelessnchaos · 28/05/2009 19:56

I have done it to myself a few times, a bit fiddly but pretty good, better than tweezing

forkhandles · 28/05/2009 20:02

it's very funny Lulu!!
