welcome back to work! what kind of job do you do? i quite like the first top but not the second -too garish.
in my job i have to be smart-ish. Things that work really well for me are decent quality white shirts in summer - always look classy and are not expensive - and neutral colours so you can mix and match. i wear a lot of white, beige and grey. i hope i don't look dreary! i liven it up with lovely silver accessories. i recently bought this gorgeous Boden bag in silver colour, which was my big extravagance for the season (unhelpfully it's sold out, but you get the idea)

i think you can get away with some quite cheap things if you have at least one thing that looks expensive and always go for quality fabrics - linen, pure cotten, pure wool etc rather than synthetics. H&M do some lovely work pieces that look much more expensive than they are

Zara. very stylish clothes at reasonable prices.

Mango can also be good. i got two amazing wool tunic dresses there - one grey and one black - very simple, cost £40 each, which i wore over different tops, almost every day this winter.

I bought the first top (the floral one) but in black. It is really nice but it depends what you do whether it is suitable for work.

I totally recommend simple cotton or linen blouses teamed up with nice accessories. A great way to make cheap tops look better!
