for the over 30, slightly plump mum.

can it be done? I'm thinking long shirt, flat shoes.

as long as the top is long enough to cover bum (and thighs depending on your size) tis fine imo

FrazzledFairyFay · 20/05/2009 20:19

Well, I'm over 30, size 18 and wearing leggings right now. I think they're fine, as long as you choose the right top to wear with them. I only ever wear leggings with very long tunic tops or dresses, and I either wear 'ballet shoes' or boots.

oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:19

ta, flame.

just realised this ishoo has already been discussed, so apologies for the duplication.

I wear them, almost 0 years older, I wear them with long tops or short dresses, and have had loads of compliments since I started wearing them.!

oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:19

frazzled, are you tall or short?

Shoshe · 20/05/2009 20:20

Bloody 2, it never works when I want to type it!!! 20 years older!

Jewelsandgems · 20/05/2009 20:20

I am 31, I wear mine with floral chiffon tea dresses, or tunic dresses and very importantly with a tan (and only with ballet pumps or usually gladiator sandals)

You have to keep it feminine, and with fashionable things to make it work.

oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:21

like with [http://www.newlook.co.uk/1727118/172711849/ProductDetails.aspx this shirt]]?

OP posts:
FrazzledFairyFay · 20/05/2009 20:23

I'm 5ft 11. I'm sure the fact that I am tall, and have reasonable legs does help

oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:23

this shirt?

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:24

oh. I am short. but decent legs (or am i kidding myself??)

OP posts:
FrazzledFairyFay · 20/05/2009 20:25

I don't think the fact that you are short should stop you

oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:25

any tan I could get would be fake, is that relevant?

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 20/05/2009 20:25

thanks, frazzled.

I agree that leggings on short people look fine. And tan-wise, mine is always fake too it's just leggings place the emphasis on the bare leg below the legging, and if that bit of leg is white and (even worse) hairy (!) then that is certainly not a good look. Ideally, hair-free, tanned, moisterised legs, ankles and feet are what you want to aim for.

mrsmaidamess · 20/05/2009 20:52

I think the shirt needs to be a bit more girly. It' s tad Wee Willie Winky. Dresses over leggings look better IMO, or skirts and top.

chatname · 21/05/2009 01:00

I am an over 40 somewhat plump mum. I rather like the girly top/dress and leggings look. I found a floral dress at ASDA for £18 that I thought worked quite well (but can't find it online sorry). It helped that the dress had a tie back and was therefore adjustable to suit my shape; if I can emphasise my waist a bit, I look smaller.

However, I'm having difficulty finding other tops/ dresses to suit, so I'd quite like to know what other suggestions people have.

gigglewitch · 21/05/2009 01:04

I reckon it is totally do-able
I am a nearer 40 over 30 mum and i wear leggings, mini denim and big cardi, am afraid I have gone back to my student days but I like the look and my legs are my best bit so why not show em off

oregonianabroad · 21/05/2009 07:23

Cool, will invesitgate these options, thank you for your thoughts!!

I see a lot of girls here wearing leggins under a short denim skirt, with ballet pumps, looks alright.

luvoneson · 22/05/2009 18:10

I have seen lots of women in leggings that are too short and too fat (sorry i need to be honest here!). I see a lot of women on the school run and when i'm out shopping and i think for them to look good you have to be quite tall and no more than a size 10.
