Seriously thinking about having fringe cut into hair - stop me now as I know I will immediately regret it!

Thats it really - want lots of reasons - other than spotty forehead and maybe am a bit past it as to why I shouldn't have a big old blunt set of bangs cut in!

Get it done, you can always grow it out if you don't like it
I had one cut few months ago, liked it, but couldn't get used to it, so currently am growing it out
Am pleased I did it, and pleased I know that it irritated me more than anything (too much styling and kept wanting to push it out the way)
Also my MIl said it made my face look fat, thanks MIL. She is the only person who can get away with those type of comments

MinnieMummy · 20/05/2009 12:49

Need pictures of the kind of style your hair is now and the kind of fringe you are thinking of before I can properly judge give an opinion!

DarrellRivers · 20/05/2009 12:49

And it looked cool and young, but it just wasn't me IYSWIM

MadameCastafiore · 20/05/2009 12:49

Thats is why but I fear I will just look a bit odd!

I want Katie Holmes's hair! But have a good 10 years on her and fear I would look a loon!

just don't do it if you have curly hair as it will spring up and you will spend months straightening it and wishing it to grow again.

I'd love a fringe but I tried it with my curly hair and learnt a hard lesson .

i love strong heavy well cut fringes, with the rest of the hair cut right it looks FAB.

OrmIrian · 20/05/2009 12:52

I have had a fringe for years. I like it. But the main reason I have it is my horrible lined forehead . I keep it trimmed myself though as I hate having it too long so that it ends up getting pushed to one side or the other.

aGalChangedHerName · 20/05/2009 12:58

Oohhh will watch this thread. I have almost decided to get a fringe and get rather a few inches chopped off!!!

LetThemEatCake · 20/05/2009 12:58

get it done, it is the best way to sidestep the issue of Botox.

I'm getting one this weekend, can't wait.

LetThemEatCake · 20/05/2009 12:59

just get it cut longish so you can sweep to side if desired

DarrellRivers · 20/05/2009 12:59

Botox, yes, another can of worms
A teeny bit more expensive than a haircut, but lasts a lot longer
Less styling and effort required too

macherie · 20/05/2009 13:21

I have recently cut a fringe and I love it

Hides the lines beginning to appear, and as it's longish, can sweep it to the side or get rid of it altogether with one of those skinny elastic hairbands.

Make a haircut really versatile IME

PuppyMonkey · 20/05/2009 13:24

I've always had a fringe, I love them. They are brilliant now I have forehead wrinkles to hide.

HaventSleptForAYear · 20/05/2009 13:33

I had a fringe cut a year ago (braved posting pics on here and got told to go for it).

I've had lots of compliments on it (told I looked about 20!) but I think DH is not keen although he won't say.

It's great for me as I have really fine dead straight hair.

I wash the fringe every day in the shower (tip from on here) and blow dry it, and then the whole lot looks reasonably "groomed" for the day and I wash the whole lot every 3 days.

My hairdresser cuts my fringe in between for free (this was another of my worries but again was told a good one would do this - and he does).

My only slight niggle is that my hair is a different colour to my eyebrows and having the fringe so close to them looks slightly odd (to me!)

LetThemEatCake · 20/05/2009 20:38

I am hoping that with a fringe I am going to look like the Next model

Which is about as delusional as you get.

squeaver · 20/05/2009 20:42

If your hair is that length (in the Next pic), you should get it done.

Actually you should get it done anyway. There's nothing wrong with a fringe.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 20/05/2009 20:42

yes, that's what i look like
keep up ladies, by the time you all get your fringes it'll be out of fashion!

letthemeatcake - you will look like that you cowbag.

Jewelsandgems · 20/05/2009 20:48

Go for it!

I had a kate moss fringe and loved it, got so many compliments.

Currently though, I have let it grow to my cheekbone and now split it so the fringe goes to the sides. And although this is just a by-product of my fringe growing out, have had tons of compliments about that too! kind of like this

LetThemEatCake · 20/05/2009 20:59

cowbag!!! charming!!!

there's abig article in Grazia this week about the return of the fringe ... it's very compelling stuff..

HaventSleptForAYear · 20/05/2009 21:29

You WILL look like her actually judging by your photos (had a nosy, justified on this type of thread, surely?).

Goooo on.

LetThemEatCake · 20/05/2009 21:50

here's what Grazia has to say (some snippets from the article)

"The most versatile haircut we;ve seen, the shag is officially the style of the summer"

"there's something about the shag that so right for now. Versatile and long lasting, it gives women a confidence that's essential for the workplace today. The shag doesn't look like you just walked out of a salon. It gives you that 2-weeks later look and, because of the face-framing layers, it looks better as it grows out, meaning fewer trips to the salon."

"Aim for a DIY, lived-in feel. Flat irons are back but there's a new technique to them - spritz your hair with Evian spray after straightening to bring back a bit of frizz."

HTH

suwoo · 20/05/2009 22:14

I have a very full heavy long fringe (pics on profile although it was a bit short that day)

My hair is that straight in RL but is pretty fine. I love it and it does indeed knock years off you.

OrmIrian · 21/05/2009 17:37

the shag?

IME a shag is either a fishy smelling seabird or a sexual act. Or rough tobacco. I can't see any of those finding favour. But I may be wrong... [grin[
