I wash them once a week with shampoo and then rinse with conditioner but they seem to have lost their softness and flexibility a bit..

I don't. I use sponges for my foundation and I chuck them out. And my eyeshadow brush is quite new and it's only me using them so I haven't.

I can just about do my bed linen once a week, can't be doing with extra stuff.

Imoverhere · 19/05/2009 22:21

Blimey, I don't clean them at all, just wipe the different colours off on whatever is available (my clothes, the quilt cover, an old tissue..)

Feeling like a right scabby cow now!

VinoEsmeralda · 19/05/2009 22:24

I am taking that as a compliment Imoverhere! Tis about the only thing that gets regular cleaning treatment in my house though

I don't remember the last time i washed my makeup brushes. I washed the sponges recently, after about 12 months use but it was such a faff, I decided to buy new next time. I often apply makeup with my fingers anyway - they get washed all the time.

girlandboy · 19/05/2009 22:26

WHAT! They need washing?

VinoEsmeralda · 19/05/2009 22:27

But Aimsmum they cost about £25 -35 each (foundation brush and powder brush).

I should have typed foundation brush not make up brushes maybe or are they all the same?

£25 - £35 EACH

Think mine cost a couple of quid from Tesco.

I would never pay that for a make up brush. That's half a weeks supermarket shop.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 19/05/2009 22:30

Once a week.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 19/05/2009 22:30

Mine's a MAC brush, think it cost £30 and worth every penny.

Imoverhere · 19/05/2009 22:32

Vino - it is indeed a compliment

onadietcokebreak · 19/05/2009 22:33

Got a full set of body shop brushes from my days as a rep with them.

When hosting parties it was daily but now just for me every few months!!

Bit of baby shampoo or anti bac hand wash, give them a good squeeze to get off excess water and then put upright in a jar.

Body shop brushes are fab...mine still look like new 3 years later and so soft!

Miyazaki · 19/05/2009 22:34

I might wash a foundation brush I spose, I imagine it gets a bit gammy.

Imoverhere · 19/05/2009 22:35

Vino - just read the 25 to 35 quid each bit. Double Blimey.. yes I would wash them then (although prob once every couple of months) but I get mine cheap from whichever supermarket I'm in that happens to have them on offer. I am even more impressed with you now.

VinoEsmeralda · 19/05/2009 22:36

How do you clean them Stripey?

OP posts:
muggglewump · 19/05/2009 22:36

Erm once a monthish. They didn't cost much though, the most I paid was the price of a magazine to get the freebie brush off it!

I just wash it under the running tap.

VinoEsmeralda · 19/05/2009 22:44

Thanks Stripey, have no experience with other brushes as was a make up virgin and the lady at Chanel took full advantage of that Make up is good though!

I use Estee Lauder make up brush cleaner, sounds poncy but its brilliant, I use their foundation brush and it gets really clogged up, I dip the brush in a little pot with their cleaner and it just dissolves everything on it, rinse and air dry, like a brand new brush!!

Costs £10 but I've had my bottle for well over a year and still have loads left!

verylapsedrunner · 20/05/2009 21:51

....er, clean them?

MrsMcCluskey · 20/05/2009 21:51

Never

VinoEsmeralda · 21/05/2009 10:41

Mummytowillow - that sounds much beter then washing them with shampoo, will google it, thank you
