Sorry - another "I want a dress " thread - but I want one WITH sleeves please!

A going out/evening type dress with a bit of a sleeve - am fed up with the little shrug things!

Something with a bit of shape but not too clingy, not overly fussed on colour but not too patterned.

If anyone can help I would be sooooo grateful!

There is a blog called The Thoughtful Dresser written by Linda Grant who was nominated for the Booker Prize last year. It's so worth reading on the subject of dresses with sleeves.

Being in her 50s, she wanted an evening dress with sleeves to wear to the awards ceremony, money no object. She went everywhere, harvey nicks, liberty, you name it , but could not find a dress with sleeves. Eventually she had to have one made specially.

I'll keep a look out for you, but I'm guessing there won't be many choices out there.

I bought one in Monsoon for a wedding at the beginning of April. It is tunic like with chiffon sleeves and it was ideal as I didn't need a cover up so felt less stressy trying to put together a last minute outfit.

Joggler · 18/05/2009 10:33

I just tried on a lovely silk skirt in marks bright blue waterfall . fantastic colour.

Think seperates are alwasy easier

Earthymama · 18/05/2009 10:49

I agree wholeheartedly, I'm trying to get an outfit for a wedding and every time I think lovely material or cut, there are no sleeves.

Many of the people at the wedding are quite body facist and condemn bingo wings and less than perfect cleavages as a character fault! So I'm really looking forward to it as you can imagine!

The bride is a darling and just wants everyone to have a good time but weddings are a sartorial nightmare, I want to spend my money on something I'll wear often.

Will also watch this thread with interest

I got a nice one from dorothy perkins black wrap thing
short but ok with opaques

OllieWollieWoo · 18/05/2009 12:05

Oasis have several shift types dresses with sleeves that come in lovely colours - think they are called Shanghai or something - would link but website appears to be down at the mo - and they may be too weddingey or too fitted for what you are after? Fab one in dusky red and magenta pink.

I love this one from Oasis at Littlewoods:
here
not sure re colour or bow and out of stock online but nice shape!
new look one
think this would look nicer on
There are a few tea dresses around but I just seem to look frumpy in them!

Joggler · 18/05/2009 12:07

yes i go the oasis ones
are nice but are short...

merlin · 18/05/2009 12:29

Thanks Olliewollie.

I had fallen in love with that Dottie P one but doesn't seem to be available anywhere!!!!

You're welcome Merlin. Would love the DP one 2 - but in a different colour. Have you tried phoning customer services? If its been a big seller, sometimes they bring it back again in a different colour so worth checking back in the future! Good luck in the meantime tho!

KristinaM · 18/05/2009 14:56

ollie - is this the oasis dress?

shantung tulip dress

OllieWollieWoo · 18/05/2009 15:29

Yes thats one of them - the other one is shown on the same page - the dark pink one and think there is another red one (flippin website wont let me access it tho! Wonder if DH has put a firewall on it???!!!!!!!!!!!!)

merlin · 19/05/2009 14:26

Thanks Clure - loving the warehouse one - may have to try that.

Like the tulip too, but don't think that neckline does me any favours!

I know what you mean, it's a pain finding something pretty with a sleeve.

What about this over a long straight skirt?
or this?

this doesn't quite have sleeves, but it is v fab and more covered up at the top of the arms.
