Unexpected black tie invite at 6 months pg!

Queenoftheharpies · 16/05/2009 11:37

I've been invited to a black tie do at very short notice (thursday) and have nothing to wear.

Suggestions please - I have no idea where to even start. I don't want to spend money on something I'll realistically only wear once but it would be nice to get something that fits the occasion.

I'm also going to a wedding in a couple of weeks (oh, and the blue dress I showed you for that looked rubbish when I tried it on so I've sent it back) so something that will do for both occasions would make sense.

Or, would it be possible to hire something?

Inspire me, please...

isabella oliver has some gorgeous dresses, expensive i know but maybe you could try ebay. it will double for the wedding

Ooh, this is lovely

Bit much for a wedding though? - it's an afternoon do.

LOL at isabella olivier's description of it as 'a great piece for daywear too' though.

isabella oliver dresses may be gorgeous but I found the quality to be very poor and disappointing

can I ask how big you are? Monsoon do clothing up to a 22 and when I went in 7months pregnant with DD3 they couldn't do enough to help me find an outfit for a very posh wedding I had to go to

either that head to Matalan and buy something in their larger sizes - some nice things you could dress up with nice accessories/shoes/bag which you would get more use out of

Queenoftheharpies · 16/05/2009 11:40

That's interesting - their site looks upmarket and their stuff isn't cheap.

I'm about a size 12 so should have plenty of choice. Big norks, obviously a big stomach at the mo, decent legs and good arms.

it is upmarket in design and prices but when I got some of the stuff I felt it was basic jersey material and the mark up on the prices would have been massive

its a shame to as the design of the clothing is EXACTLY what I would be prone to wearing, I just resent paying that amount of money for clothing for something thats got a very limited lifespan

they used to hold their value on ebay I suppose, not so sure now BUT if I were you and a pg size 12 I'd certainly just be spending my money on larger sized clothing and accessories

dizzydixies · 16/05/2009 11:46

depending on your height something like this could be fabulous - flattering on the norks, straps wide enough to wear a bra and the waistband could be placed below your bust above the bump ifswim? and long enough to wear flats if you can't be bothered with heels

I'd certainly go in and try lots on to see if there was something there for you

LOL, this is going to be no use whatsoever to you, but, this is what i have always done.
when pregnant, and havingto go to blacktie events, weddings, graduations etc, i always always wear a sari. the blouse needs no adjustment, and the sari just gets wrapped around a bigger belly, without any worry about size etc. and you can still wear the sari afterwards..
as i said, it may be of no use at all to you.
