how will it really pan out.

What looks do you want to see yourself working( girlfrien') and what do you KNOW will go wrong.

a mate texted me the other day about cropped trousers and said " the thign is i cannto accept i am short and have short legs, in my mind i am Elle mcpherson, gazzelle like striding through town, as it is I look likea 12 year old.. in a bad way"

I imagine myself wafting about in sunshine, wearing flip flops or chillaxing by a pool in Halston with a wicked tan ...
mostly it's been FREEZING TO DEATH and bizarrely having DP and male friends criticising my more outre outfit choices. Like they know anything ..

hohoba · 14/05/2009 22:03

yes
btu its annoying how you listen isnt it?!

OP posts:
bleh · 14/05/2009 22:05

To DP yes, but male friend no no no. He's a physicist. They don't know ANYTHING about clothes. And his jeans are too tight.
I still don't get why he was even commenting.

Why was I listening to DP even? Pscha

Lizzylou · 14/05/2009 22:06

Like any season, I want to look effortless cool and well coordinated.
I normally just look like a bag lady.

I am 5ft 9" with long legs and I love cropped trousers. So now they're out, guess it'll just be jeans and a T-shirt.

hohoba · 14/05/2009 22:06

No i love them too and wear them. Not out at all afaik

i am an apple, although gyrotonics and running is helping tone up... and i find myself unnaccountably drawn to the light leggings, glads and long shift look. would iy look awful on me, do you think?

Lizzylou · 14/05/2009 22:08

Phew
Thank fark for that.
Tunic tops make me look preggers, although I keep buying them because they look so nice on other people.
I love dresses but have hairy (I know, can shave/wax) pasty legs which seem immune to fake tan.

Lizzylou · 14/05/2009 22:10

What is gyrotonics Aitch?

AitchTwoOh · 14/05/2009 22:13

kinda like the gayest multigym you've ever seen, carved out of wood in an arts and crafts style, lots of pulleys. i cannot recommend it too highly, it has TRANSFORMED me in a few short weeks. although it's pricey, cos it's one on one, but i feel that it's set me up to run and be more active on my own.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrotonic

Lizzylou · 14/05/2009 22:15

Where do you do it?
Sounds interesting....

AitchTwoOh · 14/05/2009 22:19

it is absolutely fantastic, truly. i've just felt so utterly wrecked by the CS with dd2, not that anything went wrong, i don't know... i think it was emotional as well as physical tbh. anyway, i now feel about three inches taller and i have a waist, as well as feeling capable of joining the running thread on here so sleeping better etc etc as well.

without giving too much away, i do it at the ballet company where i live. there's a studio in the building and lardy plebs can book appointments with the instructors as well.

Lizzylou · 14/05/2009 22:25

Sounds wonderful, am off to google for Gyrotonics in our area. Is it similar to Pilates?
I do run (although not as much as I used to) and swim/do exercise DVD's, but that sounds fab.

AitchTwoOh · 14/05/2009 22:29

i think it is similar to pilates, yes. it's bliss, that's all i know.

KristinaM · 15/05/2009 01:29

aitch - i think i read about that in the paper...is the woman who runs it PW?

i am also drawn to the little floaty dress thing

not a good look on a 40 something with huge norks

the reality will be linen trousers and tops [boring emoticon]

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 15/05/2009 01:36

Skirts/dresses.....of any description,

Ankle skimming with vest tops or above the knee flimsy chiffon type with plain lttle t-shirts,

I have some cropped trousers which I do wear and are nice with vest tops or my collection of floaty tops that look like they have been designed by faeries.

I don't give a great deal of thought to what is in or out. I love mixing new stuff with vintage.

And my seasonal hair colour is as white blonde as I can get it.

fircone · 15/05/2009 11:25

I bought a pair of navy linen tailored trousers and a stone-coloured shirt, and a pair of lace-up plimsolls.

I stepped in front of the mirror. Aaaaaagggghhh! Looking back at me was Sandi Toksvig!

muffle · 15/05/2009 11:34

If and when we get a summer...

I like the cropped trousers idea too - my vision is a kind of funky, sloppy yet stylish look with 3/4 linen crops and floaty floral tops, with cool shades and birkenstocks or beachy sandals. But add the necessary cosy cardie, vast bag of DS's gubbins, suncream, snacks, sunhats, toys etc, and my deathly white hairy shins and I think what I end up with is a total dog's breakfast.

Linen trousers in general - I have this idea of wonderful chic sweepiness but what you actually get is baggy-arsed crumpled messiness.

Oh and I would also like to wear a lovely floral headband/scarf thing and they seem to look great on other people. But if I ever try it I look like I've got my knickers on my head.

TrillianAstra · 15/05/2009 11:48

I love my sophisticated long skirts, but they get caught in my bike brakes and
a) make the bike stop
b) get really horrible black marks
c) sometimes rip

I would look so much better if it would only be sunny. And warm. And not bloody windy.

Podrick · 15/05/2009 13:30

I am aiming to wear genie pants a lot with a kind of pirate/boho/danish style

I expect this look would look quite cool and arty if I were 20 years younger and 2 stones slimmer and in reality I will look somewhat odd and mad - but quite appealing to children.

Botbot · 15/05/2009 13:34

In imagination: tall, breezy, effortless, coordinated.

In reality: short, dumpy, scruffy, sweaty.

As usual

Hopefully · 15/05/2009 15:50

In my head I am carrying of a slightly nautical, slightly vintagey yet all my own style type look.

In reality I look like I have dressed from the 'age 6-9' section of Gap.

MamaHobgoblin · 15/05/2009 19:10

So ok, what do you wear in summer if you're 5'2" and dumpy? What is a no-no?

AitchTwoOh · 15/05/2009 21:41

no no really... can i do the treggings and big blouse thing? am i allowed? i think it looks so nice on the Young.
