Dress etc for Henley Regatta

Anyone been to the Henley Regatta before and know what kind of dress I should (and shouldn't!) wear?

I am size 10-12 with largish boobs (bfing) but dd won't be with me so don't need a dress I can bf in. Fancy some new high heels to go with the dress but haven't worn high shoes for a year so need some that aren't as mad as I'd have worn in my past life!

Price wise can spend up to about £300 on shoes, bag and dress though may not need bag or shoes depending on the dress.

I have long brown hair, green eyes and am 5"8.

Thank you!

MM

We go to Stewards every year (not this sadly as have 6 week old twins). Good advice on here already but I would say again - shoes, shoes, shoes!!! Over the years I've been I've ruined various pairs in mud and nearly crippled myself in others with all the standing about and walking. (i never learn and never take my own advice - maybe next year) Try and wear new ones in before hand as hobbling with blisters is not a good look - though an excuse for more Pimms to dull the pain. Have a great time - it's a lovely day out

Anyone have any thoughts on these are if they'd be right for Henley?

this is nice

this black and white one though maybe too short?

this from Ted Baker

this with nice accessories?

is the only greenish one I've found that I like

JJ you meanie no he didnt go round in circles, well, not until well after the race lol in the Leander Club bar, but thats a whole other thread. MM I am very jealous of the types of dresses you are looking at I couldnt even entertain any of those lol. x

monkey - they're all to short apart from the silk one - if you're going to be in Stewards they really won't let you in if your knees are showing.

It's not that weddingy really, tbh if you went too glam you'd bee looked at like the kind of Ascot Ladies day people who end up with their photos in the papers. If you see what i mean! It's more elegant garden party than summer wedding.

Thanks for the suggestion JJ. Dp has finally confirmed that we're going in a corporate marquee and the dress code says "smart casual". Not that it helps much but at least I don't need to worry so much about all the formal dress code bit. I am tired of looking for something to wear so am going to get spanx-ed up and try on some of my pre-pg stuff and see if any of my lovely dresses might fit.

The wife of one of dp's colleagues rang to see what I'll be wearing (this is all a bit ott for me) and she suggested she'll be in a black satin skirt and black basque!?!! Anything I wear will have to look demeur next to that!

black skirt and basque sounds ridiculous - also remember it may be chilly/drizzly and you will need a wrap/cardie of some sort, and I would give as much thought to that as the dress - recently did a coporate event @ the derby and people looking 'dressed-up' and teetering around uncomfortably in unaccustomed clothes attracted ridicule ( not from me, I'm too nice ), but would echo the gardent party theme, rathr than the 'aintree' type vibe..

IME people overdress

even in Stewards a well-cut cotton sundress of this ilk is fine

think vicarage garden party

tis an outdoor sporting event, not a cocktail party

monkeysmama · 28/06/2009 21:47

I think a basque is a bit for most sporting occasions! I've found a dress in my wardrobe that I've fallen in love with a again. Though after all this we may not get to go as MIL thinks she needs to be at home for something and so can't look after dd. We'll see.
