Size 18 but only 5'3.

Need: one nice blazer jacket that can be dressed up or down.

Other suggestions for short fatties on holiday??

Also have huuuuge feet so can't really do cute ballerina slippers... what will I put on my feet? I want to be able to walk for miles and still look effortlessly cool and chic.

Saw this in the shop and thought it was waaay cute. could go over t-shits and cardis, dressed up for night time?

LetThemEatCake · 11/05/2009 22:37

that blazer is perfect - buy it!

I have huge feet (size 42) and wear ballet flats - are you sure you can't? In any case you may want something a little thicker in the sole for support if you're planning on walking lots.

What are you planning to wear on your bottom half?

very jealous, have fun!

oregonianabroad · 12/05/2009 07:29

Jeans? Might through in 1 pair of linen trousers in case it is really hot.

Re: ballet flats, I can wear them, but not for any great length of time, as my feet start to ache and ache and so does my back.

Might get some inserts. Or converse?

When are you going? Paris can be very cold and wet - I went in June once and had to buy extra layers when we were there (good excuse to shop though )

oregonianabroad · 12/05/2009 10:18

throw in a pair of linen trousers, sheesh.

End of May, woodmouse. temps will be probably like here, right? Maybe 2 pairs of jeans, no linen trousers, one pair slightly smarter for dressing up?

OP posts:
BobtheWoodmouse · 12/05/2009 13:56

Hum, end of May, weather might do anything. I would be tempted to err on the side of smartness and go for a pull on black dress like the artigiano one I linked to in another thread - here with ballet flats (or nearest non-frump M&S footglove equivalent for comfort)

My sister is an 18 and 5,3, and looks fab in this dress. Maybe a trench coat over the lot in a bright colour - Gap do a lovely purple one at the moment. Throw in a pair of opaque tights in case it's freezing, brolly, sunglasses, lippy and you're done.

Linen trousers sound good too.

Have a lovely time

oregonianabroad · 13/05/2009 07:17

Woodmouse that dress is amazing but are you sure??? I would normally shy away from something that clingy. It looks like it would be terribly unforgiving across my tum.

BonsoirAnna · 13/05/2009 07:21

You do not want to wear a blazer in Paris! Not right at all. Or linen, if you are going as a tourist - you'll get very crumpled and dirty.

Get cotton trousers in a darkish colour, with brighter tops and cardigans and a thin waterproof jacket (the weather can be very unpredictable from one day to the next). And you can wear Birkenstocks - I live in Paris and they are the best for walking around on the hard pavements. Don't wear trainers! Ballet flats don't absorb the shocks from the hard pavement.

BobtheWoodmouse · 13/05/2009 08:43

oregon - my sister is all tum but she felt it was fairly forgiving plus the ruching bit helped. I think if you get the right size, it will look good - not too clingy. She was working on the theory that fitting/skimming looks better than hiding curves away.

I want this dress myself - it looks so easy and useful.

oregonianabroad · 13/05/2009 12:33

Not even converse trainers, Anna??

Birks are a bit hard on my feet, I find, unless they are well worn in.

Why not blazer with jeans combo? Why wrong? Stand out as a tourist wrong or totally un-tredny wrong?

OP posts:
BonsoirAnna · 13/05/2009 13:04

Blazer and jeans shouts tourist tourist tourist. Do you want to get robbed?

Converse if you like.

reach4sky · 13/05/2009 13:18

So nobody wears a jacket in Paris all of a sudden?

oregonianabroad · 13/05/2009 20:33

Thanks woodmouse.

oregonianabroad · 13/05/2009 20:35

Anna,
what do women wear in Paris these days?

when I lived there (15eek years ago) it was all cute cardis and little flippy scarves. Very preppy look.

Also, can't recall too many short fatties other than the tourists???

Anyway, my bloazer and jeans combo will be exceptionally cool and not too touristy... (er, well, maybe).

this dress? can be dressed up or down, this jacket/ with shoes like these? then you just need jeans, a couple of plain short sleeved tshirts a couple of longer sleeved ones and some funky jewellery

oregonianabroad · 14/05/2009 14:59

Ooh, I like your ideas Naomi. Except not the shoes.

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 15/05/2009 19:49

The balzer came and it looked terrible. Did not fit at all. Suggestions??

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 15/05/2009 19:49

oops, blazer

Not sure about jackets, though Hobbs does have a sleek belted mac which I wanted to get and couldnt find, will see if I can link to it in a min.
Re shoes, I bought some lovely soft red suede ballet pumps from Clarks last week, same style as these, they look chic and are soft too

Here it is

If the link doesnt work its the Felicty wrap coat

oregonianabroad · 15/05/2009 20:02

Those shoes are v cute, pannacotta. I was wearing some similar (red from Clark's last year) today, and this am I thought, these will do for Paris, but after wearing them just for the day round the office, my feet, knees and back were just killing me. I need more support! But don't want to look too frumpy. Ah, dilemma, dilemma.

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 15/05/2009 20:06

That's a very fine mac. Bit pricey though, and maybe a bit long for a shorty? What do you all think of this one?

OP posts:
oregonianabroad · 15/05/2009 20:22

And can I wear a short |(but not too short) denim skirt with black tights and a rain mac do you think?

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 15/05/2009 21:12

Nice jacket though double fronted not usually the most flattering.

That said I found a nice navy mac in H&M which is double fronted but doesnt look it and is v flattering, has funky lining too, worth a look maybe.

In terms of shoes, have you looked at Clarks Air range? They are super comfy.

These also look good, comfy but smart too

Oh dear - I am going to Paris and Eurodisney at half term - I was expecting the weather to be nice - I have linen trousers/cotton tops planned and a little dress with cardi for when we go into Paris.

I but some air shoes from clarks - with a bar across - which my friend has from last year and she says they are so comfy - but I can't even wear them for an hour in the house.
