A little moan...women of a certain age...

I am a reasonably trim, fashionable late 40s- look a bit younger so I am told- but am so depressed at lack of suitable summer clothes this year.

Everything is either sleeveless and very young, empire line and smocky ( don't want to look PG), or floral like curtains.

I am not old enough for Kalico, or CCs, don't like Hobbs ( all those spots), Phase 8 and Fenn Wright Manson are all to floral and droppy, and mother-of-the-bride, Monsoon looks garish, White Stuff and Fat Face are aging hippy...

Jesire and Whistles are drab this season...I could go on!

used to love Jigsaw and Kew, but Jigsaw is now silly prices, and everything this year is purple, navy or black ( not my colours), and the dresses are either too formal or too floaty.

Have bought one colour block dress from Boden, and one skirt Jigsaw and one skirt from Kew.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Like that Get My Fashion site!
Inis online stocks those brands too.
I have also bought a couple of jersey shrug things from Phase Eight, and they also do great jewellery.
For cardigans,I like the shrug type from New Look or Siansbury's this year, they look great over dresses.
Wore a navy silk spotted Warehouse dress with flat cream New Look pumps, lond Matalan silver necklace and cropped purple New Look crdigan the other day and got loads of compliments!.The dress had been sitting in my wardrobe,I thought it was a bit formal for day wear but t he cardi thing sort of downgrades it,ifyswim.
I have been looking at Grazia,DD1's 'celeb' trash magazines and my usual Red etc to get this year's 'take' on a few of my old favourites!

Thanks for the ideas for groom's mum. I suppose the problem is that, though I AM middle-aged, I don't want to dress too much like that as I'm still slim and in reasonable shape but it's really tricky not to look either too mumsy or mutton dressed as lamb.
I quite like LK Bennett but they're all knee length shifts which do suit me except the bride's mother is wearing almost full length so the contrast might be a bit too great. I'm now waiting for the new autumn-winter stock as all the garments I've tried so far have ended up in the sales. I'm hoping to find something in the 'new' berry colours which suit me.

But I don't WANT to be a woman of a CERTAIN age (blackduck wails in a way that is totally unbecoming for a woman of her age) and runs and buries her head whilst taking note of advice mentioned....
