my nails have become really thin and are constantly splitting. had a manicure today and a lady was having powder extentions not the long plastic ones iyswim.they looked really natural and am considering. anyone else had them?

Not me, but my mother in law gets them done - the ones she gets done are called gel nails - it looks really natural (not the fake ultra long look).

thanks, will look into gels.

But your nails will still be thina and weak below them - when they are taken off that is, they will be in a worse condition than they are now.

Just cut your nails very short and start going for regular manicures - which will give the the impetus to start looking after them.

i have a manicure every week and they are as short as they can go. they keep tearing and when i have to pull the nail off it rips to the skin iyswim?
i realise they will still be the same condition but wouldnt envisage taking them off onced they were done.

the gel ones are good, I loved mine. My nails are very thin too. The only problem is the upkeep. If you go to a reputable salon, even if you do want them taken off, they will do it properly and your nails won't be wrecked afterwards. Mine were def no worse after. I gave up having them done because of the time and expense involved.

They can't make them very much longer with gel nails, but they are much more natural. Your natural nails underneath will grow with the support from the gel though.

I'm gettign tempted to have mine redone, now summer is here!

dont mind the upkeep, its 10.00 each week and 45 mins anyway.how often did you have to have the infills?

I have the powder ones! I have had stick on, acrylic and gel ones before and I definitely think the powder ones are best - long lasting and natural looking (ask for powder American manicure). You can choose how long or short you want them. They are the more expensive I paid £35 for full set and £25 for infilling (they have to redo the tip as well) compared to £23 for a full set of acrylics and £16-£19 depending on colour finish for infilling. I can make them last up to 3 weeks before infilling.

thank you, am geared up to get them now.going away at half term so will have them just before.

every 2 weeks, depends though how quick yours grow. Ours was about £20 for infills irrc, plus £7 if you break one and they have to completely redo it. Even gel can shatter if you shut one in a door or do stupid things like that .
