Random Question - Where in the UK do you find best for shopping?

If you could go anywhere in the UK for a shopping trip (clothes and household treats), where would you or do you go? ie town/city or shopping centre?

We are talking one of those mega shopping destinations when you end up walking back to the car/train with several bags on each arm and an empty purse!

another vote for Manchester here - has everything without having to walk too far.

Where is Westfield ? and what is it ? a big out of town thing ?

Have to say I prefer city centres.

and agree with most of whats been said above... except Glasgow (sorry)

Having said that it was a few years ago when I last went so maybe things have changed.

Westfield here too! Good mix of shops, lovely and bright, good food court, and it didn't even feel crowded in the late December sales.

Galava, it's in Sheperd's Bush (London).

I also like going to Kingston - the Bentall Centre is pretty good, and there is John Lewis too.

EldonAve · 11/05/2009 11:56

The best thing about Kingston is the creche!

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/05/2009 12:04

Bicester Village... it's a bit twee but I love it! Really good brands and great discounts.

I live in London and work just off Oxford St so can think of nothing worse than spending more time here shopping! I hate hate hate all the crowds and refuse to go to Primark etc on principle so would never shop here voluntarily.

Having said that, I do love St Christopher's Place and Selfridges so it's not all bad...

mosschops30 · 11/05/2009 12:09

Manchester (town centre)
and Newcastle (town centre)

Im not really into big undercover centres, which is why I avoid the Traffod and Metro at above places

lizandlulu · 11/05/2009 12:41

meadowhall everytime for me, a bit shabby inside but got most of the shops you would want. although i have never been to westfield. went to bluewater a few weeks ago but it is 2 and half hours away from me and not really worth the extra travelling when meadowhall is 40 mins away.

Galava · 11/05/2009 14:14

So the North seems to be a popular choice.

Maybe that Coleen Rooney was on to something when she said Northern girls had more style

frAKKINPannikin · 11/05/2009 19:53

Birmingham - Bullring with Selfridges and Debenhams at either end, good mix of cheap high street and more expensive, then large several more flagship stores on New Street/Corporation street including a fab House of Fraser.

blithedance · 11/05/2009 22:36

Nottingham town centre. Has the Holy Trinity of Debenhams, John Lewis and House of Fraser, plus loads of boutique shops, independents, etc.

Frizbe · 11/05/2009 22:40

Meadowhall or Westfield at Derby (I hear Leics is good too) Nottm is ok, but more hassle to get into than the other two trams and parking wise) Quite like Bullring too.

Fimbo · 11/05/2009 22:40

Norwich is quite good and Cambridge.

lizandlulu · 12/05/2009 19:00

i hate the nottingham debenhams! i can never find anything and its not all that big

soopermum1 · 12/05/2009 23:02

hate Oxford Street, London. Too many tourists. Glasgow is fab for shopping. I also have a real fondness for Kingston Upon Thames, lovely big M&S
