What sort of thing are you thinking ? Can you link to the ebay ones ??

I was initially hoping to get married in green, but went with red in the end. DD's had ivory and silvery grey dresses on and they would have "worked" with either colour (pics on profile)

What sort of wedding are you having ? Budget for dress ?

Heated · 09/05/2009 14:54

Congratulations

So red or purple - in a wedding dress style?

Do you have a budget in mind?

What size are you?

stitchtime · 09/05/2009 14:54

think of a style or shape that really really flatter you, even if it requires underwear that is scaffolding like
then knowing what your budget is, look in the shops in the high street first, then online, and lastly ebay.
how old are the kids? what do they want to wear? it doesnt have to match imo. but the important part is to enjoy this experienc. its meant to be fun

What shape and size are you -- are you hourglassy / pear shaped / straigh up and down / something else? Best part of body? Are you looking for something evening-dressy or more of a daytime dress? Long or short?

alicecrail · 09/05/2009 15:03

A good idea could be to look at bridesmaid dresses for yourself to wear as they are a lot cheaper, come in all sorts of colours and you could be able to get your bridesmaids outfits from the same place and have say, a sash the same colour as your dress or whatever iyswim?

tilly i love your dress, it really suits you

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/05/2009 15:07

purple?

Or is that too much like a wedding dress?

Heated · 09/05/2009 15:10

3 differing styles

maggiesottero weddiing

prom style

evening

KristinaM · 09/05/2009 15:12

why don't you wear the style of dress you woudl normally wear IYSWIM?

whatever you feel and look good in

[I confess that my Dh thought I woudl get married in jeans ]

Clure · 09/05/2009 18:10

Lovely suggestions above!

this one comes in purple or red

or this

purple

nymphadora · 10/05/2009 19:22

Thanks everyone, laptop crashed & couldn't get back yesterday. Only here for a few mins today too

Kristina-I don't normally do dresses, its took me 10 years to get out of wearing jeans for work!

I am size 14 though heading the wrong way from thta. 5ft curvy though my tummy is going the wrong way too!

I prefer halternack or straps as I have wide shoulders and it takes the right strapless not to look too odd IYSWIM!

I love the coast one and maggiesottero and clures purple one!

Mine on ebay were
1

2

3

4

5

Thanks everyone back soon!

Those links give much more of an idea now Nymph. Will need to take your height into consideration when looking too as at 5ft some of these dresses will probably swamp you.

nymphadora · 11/05/2009 07:43

I know!

What about stilts under the skirt? [half serious emoticon]

nymphadora · 12/05/2009 10:26

Been measuring lengths and the shorter one is still half way down my calf. Is that too long ?

I think it is Alfed Angelo that do wedding/bridesmaid dresses in about 300 colours, it may be worth a look. I had a champagne coloured dress from Debenhams that cost £100 that i loved. I would also recommend trying on different styles before you decide and i also found the wedding dress sizes generally came up smaller than high street.

nymphadora · 12/05/2009 19:06

Thanks for that I was starting to feel that I was fatter than I was!

Where do you get Alfred Angelo from?

I think most bridal shops stock some of the stuff, but you would be best to look online to see full range i expect. I am about a 12/14 and in the bridal shops i was having to squeeze into a 16!! I would recomend going to some shops to try on all different styles as the one i thought i wanted looked awful on, and i tried something my friend suggested that i didn't like on the hanger and it was perfect. I've got a picture on my profile.

nymphadora · 13/05/2009 14:39

I fell in love with a dress today but the shop was shut so I have to go back. Its purple though!
