A whole new wardrobe...what shall I buy?

OK, I have had a windfall and I'm in need of some new clothes, so what shall I buy?

I literally want to chuck out most of what I have (OK, OK, give it to charity, if they'll have it ) and start again from scratch. I have NO decent summer clothes and live in jeans and jumpers in the winter [shame emoticon].

I have an ample bosom (34G), but I'm quite petite - size 10-12 and 5'4". The ample bosom makes summery strappy things a nightmare and I don't do bare armpits or bare legs past about mid-calf (too upsetting for the general public ).

Can you find me nice things? Oh, go on. You know you want to

Shoes included. And a nice summery handbag. And if you post a link to the bloody bat, ML, unless it's in a plum frock, I'll be very cross

gorgeous. You probably look gorgeous in pale blues and greens. I imagine you look nice in pale browns. I think that you should get some nice soft, almost pastel colours.

hunkermunker · 02/05/2005 00:45

Mhamai, I will check that out - thank you.

ML, you're a boost to the ego and no mistake!

very very jealous about M&S and Next and H&M and Top Shop... can't find any decent clothes shops down here, it's not easy with an ample bosom and an unwillingness to show armpits I agree.

Good luck to ya

MarsLady · 02/05/2005 00:47

boho style it is!

hunkermunker · 02/05/2005 00:48

SW, are you an armpit-non-shower too?

OP posts:
suzywong · 02/05/2005 00:53

yeah
even in the depths of 43 degree summer I have not shown armpit, it's just not cricket as far as I am concerned

MarsLady · 02/05/2005 00:56

what about these hinker? And not a bat in sight!

hunkermunker · 02/05/2005 01:07

Dungarees, ML? DH would laugh himself into a stupor.

Hmm...maybe a worthwhile investment!

SW - nice to know a fellow non-armpit-shower

nice, but armpits ahoy
and when I see a model whose upper arm is not as wide as her forearm as on the opening page it does tend to put me off a bit

Back to the kaftans for me then

Most of the big stores (especially in London) have personal shopping departments - I know thay sound scarey but I have used the ones in Harrods and Harvey Nicks (not everything there is mega expensive) and it makes shopping a happy experience! It's absolutely free, there's no pressure (the women don't get any kind of commission) and you walk around the shop with them first, talking about what you like and don't and what your budget is and then you sit in a fabulous big dressing room with a drink and magazines whilst the personal shoppers bring you armfuls of stuff to try on. Then they scurry backwards and forwards changing things until you've found something or decided none of it's any good. They aren't in the least judgemental and honestly, do try it. Far better than schlepping from shop to shop getting undressed a hundred times! Big Debenhams, John Lewis etc also have them. It makes you try stuff you'd never have picked up and the stuff I bought this way 8 years ago are still my favourite and most worn items! Bit like having a polite Trinny & Susannah to help you (sadly without the £2000, though!)

That sounds wonderful Satine, when I win the lottery I'm going to do a trip back to London and do that

bubblerock · 02/05/2005 09:02

It was a plum dress, you're right. Not sure it's quite the style I was after though...
