Can anyone help me accessorise this dress?

It is much nicer in real life than in the photo and I may wear it to a wedding at the end of May. I wanted something that I could wear again over the summer and this seems to fit the bill. Am wondering how to accessorise it if I do wear it to the wedding. I have a green wrap that I think works. But - shoes?? Am so bad at this sort of thing, am normally a jeans girl!

dress here

dairymoo · 04/05/2009 19:53

I'd be tempted to go with something like this for the shoes...as I think purple and turquoise look fab together.

pcworld · 04/05/2009 19:57

Oh, thanks Disenchanted, wasn't sure how do the link. Dairymoo, like the colour of the shoes but not sure about the height.

Aha...like me then, not great in heels! These are a little more friendly but I do think you need some kind of heel with that dress. (Am also a fan of purple and red )

LetThemEatCake · 04/05/2009 20:07

think those shoes are too clunky for that dress ... but in any case, I'd go for a metallic, especially if you are going to wear a green wrap.

so something like any of the three on this page for everyday

what height of heel can you bear to wear for the wedding?

mrsmaidamess · 04/05/2009 20:09

Those first shoes that dairymoo linked to would be OK to walk in as they have platform and high heel. They are much easier than just high heels.

pcworld · 04/05/2009 20:12

Letthemeatcake, I already have some similar silver sandals But was wondering if they would be too casual for a wedding.

Dairymoo, I like purple & red too - also have a red wrap that I am wondering about.

The colour of the dress is a very vibrant purple, much more so than in the pic.

goodnightmoon · 04/05/2009 20:16

oh yes - do go for red (for shoes and wrap).

pcworld · 04/05/2009 20:18

Think I quite liked the office ones that dairymoo linked to, although they didn't have my size.

Oh yes, do not wear red shoes and a green wrap or people will start singing Christmas carols to you.

lilolilmanchester · 04/05/2009 20:41

that's a really lovely dress, you'll look fab. It could take a long chunky silver necklace (not very good at finding these things but can picture it!)

MrsMattie · 04/05/2009 20:45

I love metallics with purple. Silver or gold both fine, but personally, I'd go for bronze or a dark, burnished gold - some strappy heels and a big chunky/jangly bracelet.

Lovely dress, btw.

pcworld · 04/05/2009 20:47

Ooh, Mrs Mattie - I hadn't thought of perhaps bronze or gold, am liking your ideas! My legs, though - that's another story! White white white - think I might have to start a separate fake tan thread!!

OP posts:
lilolilmanchester · 04/05/2009 20:55

pcworld, that dress is so lovely, I honestly don't think anyone will be looking at your legs! However, if you do want a tan and you're not experienced at fake tanning yourself, invest in a spray tan (having seen soooo many badly applied fake tans at DD's dance comp this weekend) Otherwise plump for Johnsons holiday skin or similar which you can build up over a couple of weeks and rectify mistakes as they happen.

pcworld · 04/05/2009 21:01

Ah - thanks, lilo. Are spray tans expensive, do you know? I am a complete novice! It was actually quite a big deal buying this dress, I really don't like my legs.

purple & red is gorgeous

LetThemEatCake · 04/05/2009 21:02

no, not the flat silvers for the wedding - just for every day wear.

lilolilmanchester · 04/05/2009 21:07

haven't ever had a spray tan myself so don't know exactly, and I guess it depends on where you live. Have heard £10 - £20 but really don't know. Perhaps google or call a couple of salons?

What about these www.clarks.co.uk/find/Department-is-women/EndUses-is-smart/product-is-20323940

Yes, will investigate the old spray tan, could be an interesting experience lol!

Personally, I think those shoes are perfect (but I am classic/conservative....)

dairymoo · 04/05/2009 21:28

Yep, love the shoes. And wedges will be much easier to walk in than pointy heels.

pcworld · 04/05/2009 21:33

Ah - thanks a million, ladies, I've had so much help on here! Glad you think the red shoes are ok, I'll pop in and try them on. Have absolutely zero time for shopping these days but hopefully a trip to Clarks might be vaguely manageable!

Update - if anyone has 2 seconds, could I respectfully ask for opinions on these shoes? I need something I can wear again, anything too posh will ended up being worn once I and don't have the budget for that! These are quite casual for a wedding - BUT if I accessorise with nice jewellery and wrap ...
