This is the first ever christening I have been to [my family are not religous and I don't know anyone who is, and come to think of it these people arn't either...] so I have no idea what to get. It has to be stylish though.

Do you buy the present for the child only? Or for the family as a whole?

I thought perhaps a frame they could put a christening photo in, but is that a bad idea? I saw a nice one here:

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_19779_642093_-1 but they also do a silver plated album. Would that be more appropriate?

Honastly, I really don't have a clue! I also looked for a really special hardbacked book full of stories that I could write a message in for her, but have not seen anything like that.

P.S who do I write the card to? The child, or the parents? Or all of them?!!!

a silver frame is a lovely gift (though personally I'd not spend that much on a frame!).

other nice ideas would include a money box, nice china bowl/plate/cup set for baby (gorgeous bridgewater stuff or dd has the hungry caterpillar set which is fab), or nice kiddie cutlery or as you say books are good - I often get a children's Bible book.

books from the Folio Society look a bit more special than bookstore offerings, so could be good

I think a book is a fantastic idea. Timeless and beautiful.

this is kind of cute but maybe a bit pricey?

I think nice classic hardback books (as per your other thread) are always a good idea. Or nice bookends -- DS got a lot of books at his naming ceremony so the bookends that one couple bought him were very useful.

I write the card to the child: "To X, with love on your Christening day" or "To X, with every good wish on your Christening day", depending on how well you know them -- something like that.

Thanks so much guys, but I have decided on a hardbacked book (some lovely ones around that I would have never have known about if it weren't for MNET)

Thanks so much portandlemon for the card advice
