I want to look like Betty from Madmen...

I'm going to a couple of wedding this summer and I want a dress with a big flouncy skirt. I want it to be colourful and cheerful. I love the 50s/60s when women were supposed to have curves...

(I'm a size 12 on the bottom and 16ish on the top depending on the cut)

help me find the perfect dress.

budget = £100

thanks

Ooh me too!
Bumping for you and watching with interest

50's dresses are out. You'd be better with hourglass with your proportions, otherwise you could look size 16 all over with a big skirt.

Ledodgy · 02/05/2009 20:36

this is nice

muddleduck · 02/05/2009 20:54

Maybe I am kidding myself but I find that with my proportions a big skirt does work as long as I'm properly pulled in at the waist. It seems like a big skirt balanges out my big boobs and I look more in proportion. I remember going wedding dress shopping and thinking that for the first time ever it seemed like the dresses were designed for people with my sort of curves.

Ledogy - I like that alot but I worry with something that fitted that it would never be a good fit for me. To fit my top half it would end up being huge round the waist/hips.

Gosh that Vivien on holloway shop was a find! I may get this for a christening this month. Unfortunatley although I love the 50s ones I have a more 1940s shape!

Sounds like you're more of a Joan shape, muddleduck! She's gorgeous!

Love the vivian of holloway dresses Ledodgy.

mrsmaidamess · 02/05/2009 21:56

this has a 50's vibe without the volume but I suspect you still want big skirtage?

Ledodgy · 02/05/2009 21:58

That's another one I was considering for the christening maidamess it's the ight shape for me but I fear the neck line may be too high. Lovely dress though.
