Is mineral make-up suitable for over 40's?

Skin ok-ish but seems to be having a bit of a mid life strop for some reason

Ie oily forehead, the odd spot, large pores here and there. Not as well behaved as it usually is. No longer too dewy either if I'm honest

I haven't tried mineral make up. I like the natural looking idea. I don't want to look too 'made up' on a day to day basis. But would it be too light for someone my age?

I've looked online at Lilylolo but I want to buy one I can check the colour first. Any highstreet recommendations please? Bodyshop? No7? Do Benefit do it maybe?

I've used Maybelline and it's been good, lasts ages as you just layer it on till your happy.

However, I got a sample from the USA (forum and info here) and it's fab. Only cost about £3 altogether and I got 3 colours of foundation (which I mixed into my empty Maybelline jar ), a blusher and a concealer.

You choose the colours from loads on their website and they come in little jars. Even if you don't buy from them, the sample is good value and lets you try them out. I found the foundation to be a very good coverage, much better than the Maybelline so it will last longer...but you just have to watch you don't put too much on.

PS: I'm 34, smoke and have really dry skin and it seems to work for me and feels light on the skin

Thanks so much for that HG..

I really appreciate the link too. Just £3?! Bargain!

Yep, took just under a week to arrive

Oh I do love a bargain!

My mum (in her 50s) uses it and it looks great. She uses the Bare Esscentuals one.

mrsmaidamess · 01/05/2009 06:18

My skin is a bit ropey, wrinkles but oily, open pores.

I am using No 7 mineral make up and I am impressed so far, but the colour is a little dark so a light fake tan under matches up and makes me look healthier.

My pores are def. not blocked any more and it stops that matt make up look that settled into lines.

I also seem to have to use less concealer on my shadows.

I reckon it's all in the application...wait a bit until your moisturiser has settled.

Fairynufff · 01/05/2009 09:58

I lurve mineral make up and I have similar requirements to the OP. My problem is that I do find you need to moisturise your skin first and I can't seem to find a decent non-comedogenic moisturiser.

SallyJayGorce · 01/05/2009 10:01

I have rosacea - real problem skin - and wear makeup every day even though my natural inclination is a bare faced one - but prefer to look normal and not scorched so on goes the slap. And I think mineral stuff is great. I use Maybelline at the moment. But might look into HolyG's link.

HolyGuacamole · 01/05/2009 10:27

SallyJ, they do a sample of green coloured powder which balances out the red

TsarChasm · 01/05/2009 10:38

Thanks again everyone! I'm off for a try. Will go without makeup on and experiment

Liylolo will send you samples for 99p.

But there is no substitute for Bare Escentuals.
So light and easy to apply - can't go wrong with it or be too heavy handed as it's so fine.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/05/2009 10:41

I use Bare Esscentuals and I adore it. You do have to learn how to apply it though or you'll end up looking powdery. I use protect and perfect serum under it.

SallyJayGorce · 01/05/2009 10:42

Great - thanks. Need to perfect the green look - sometimes over do it and have to leave the house on a broomstick surrounded by flying monkeys.

TsarChasm · 01/05/2009 10:54

Is it possible to buy Bare Esscentuals in shops? I'm sure I've seen it on QVC but wasn't paying attention.

I want to try before I buy to choose the right colour.

bareescentuals.co.uk/shop/index.asp

This is a list of stockists. I got mine from the Beauty Salon in the gym, they did a full demo for me before I bought it and I got a few freebies too.

TsarChasm · 01/05/2009 11:05

Thanks TDWP.

I've just googled and there is a salon near me that sells it, so I'm going to see what's what.

You can buy Bare Esscentuals in some departments stores - Selfridges and Debenhams/ House of Fraser iirc
