Can your outfits ever be too...

co-ordinated.

I have this dress.

Would accessorising it with brown cardigan and green shoes be all to much?

Or maybe a black cardi and black shoes be better?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm.

Interesting one. Do you remember that bit in the Toby Young book where the fashionista comes out with the withering put-down about "match matchy"? (And it's to someone dressed in co-ordinating denim, so it's a double joke.)

I suspect the trick is to co-ordinate with items that are from the same colour-group and of the same intensity but not actually the same/picking up a colour from the principle item.

So note the blue cardi the model is wearing.

Very hard to pull-off without either a huge wardrobe or one stuffed with carefully selected and cunningly toned outfits.

On this reading - green shoes good, brown cardi - maybe not.

Though I, personally, think that sounds fine, indeed, splendid.

That said - I'd not even manage the inspiration of the green shoes and my outfits are either all black or flung together as though by an exuberent but colour-blind child.

I've threadkilled. Feel duty-bound to come back with my inane musings. Sorry ... .

If I were wearing that dress, I'd team it with cream converse and my Cath Kidston red cardi. But that's just me. I often look quite scruffy. My friend is more formal and would co-ordinate in the way you suggested (which sounded lovely).

Oh, buggery.

Cherry, the dress I have is the GRN one, not the pink/blue one. Tut. I am so sorry.

I'm now thinking green dress, black cardi with slim belt around waist, black fishnets and green wedge mary janes.

Whaddya think?
