Please be gentle with me as this is my first foray into the world of Style and Beauty as I have neither

I am usually found to be wearing jeans, fleeces and outdoorsy type clothes/shoes. Tend to wear a lot of black.

In 3 weeks time, I have to attend a cathedral service and then a reception for my DH's work.

Have found this outfit and as it is completely out of my comfort zone, I need help!!

Pictures on profile as useless at doing links.

I'm 5'8'' and a size 14 on a good day.

TIA

I LOVE that dress! You will look lovely

Flappythebat · 30/04/2009 11:03

Thank you, not sure about the shoes - might have a look at black instead of the white.

Great outfit, you will look lovely. Love the cardy.

Will you be accessorising with the bat toy on your profile page too? Perhaps as a hat?

MrsMerryHenry · 30/04/2009 11:33

Veeery nice, Flappy. Very stylish.

Love the BatHat idea!

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 30/04/2009 12:07

Love the dress the only comment I would make is with that length dress it might be a nice to have a little heel.

castlesintheair · 30/04/2009 12:13

I would get shoes with a heel too. Maybe try on some in black or even the blue in the dress to see which looks best. Don't forget, handbag to match colour of shoes!

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 30/04/2009 12:18

Where is that cardigan from?

Disagree with matching shoes and handbag. In fact I would probably try and find a cheapy clutch in the blue colour that you have in the dress.

TrillianAstra · 30/04/2009 12:35

The cardigan is a lovely shape, but could you get it in a blue to match the blue in the dress, rather than black?

I know you almost certainly can't get it, but that's what I would consider the ideal.

For someone who usually wears jeans-and-fleece outfits you are very good at picking outfits!

I agree heels would be good with that length of dress (unless your legs are very slim a la Carla Bruni)

Flappythebat · 30/04/2009 17:14

Thanks for all your comments/suggestions, the clothes are all from Monsoon (hoping ebay sales will pay for outfit!)

Might try and get some black shoes as could look like a zebra if I wore black cardi, white dress with black stripe at the bottom and white shoes

A blue cardigan to match dress would be lovely and would get me away from my safe black, once dc's are in bed will have a hunt.

Don't know about the BatHat though

Nice outfit. You have a good eye.
Heels would be better than flats, either black or the blue of the dress.

MmeLindt · 30/04/2009 17:24

Lovely outfit. I agree about the shoes.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 30/04/2009 17:29

But is the bottom of the dress black? if so, then I think a blue cardi would not look right.

I think wedge type shoes would look nice with that outfit.

Flappythebat · 30/04/2009 20:20

The bottom of the dress is black, so think will definitely go for black shoes, with a bit of a heel - hope my feet don't hurt too much as I don't really do heels!

Do the gel things work well, my feet always used to burn whenever I wore heels?

This will be the first time in almost 4 years that I've had to dress up!!

Have ordered outfit and changed the shoes to black ones with heels (pic on profile), just hope I'm able to walk!!

All nice. Not sure if so great together though.
You need a more girly pair of shoes and a more delicate floaty cardigan.

Flappythebat · 30/04/2009 21:05

But I don't do girly, that is my problem. I really do live in jeans or outdoor clothes - which are predominantly black.

Might have a look for another cardigan, will probably need it anyway as dd2 always manages to cover me in baby muck!!

I'd take the frock into a big dept. store and ask them to match it with shoes and a top. (They are nice, just a wee bit business like I think.)

Flappythebat · 30/04/2009 21:26

I think I might have to stay fairly formal though as dh will be in uniform for the day, service and reception is being held in the city his ship is affiliated to.

Think he will be surprised to see me wearing a dress, the last time that happened was a long time ago!

moondog · 30/04/2009 21:29

You can be formal and gilry. Bet your dh will love it. (Bloke in uniform sounds pretty ppphwoaar too.)
