Babies/kids hair - to style or not to style

My dd is 2.5 and has never had a haircut, I'm happy for her hair to be wild and flowing like her mothers My ds on the otherhand is 10 months and I'm thinking already his hair is looking too long/untidy...

Question is, what age is too young to give a baby a haircut? Oh and how exactly do you give a small person a haircut who won't sit still?!

I've always thought I'd just let their hair grow and they would have their first haircut when they were a bit older, but his hair is growing super fast.

What do you all do with your kids/babies hair, do you 'style' your kids hair or do they sport the 'my hairs never seen a pair of scissors in it's life' natural look?

I suppose he could become a mini surf dude.

I cut DS's hair at about 14 months. It is quite hard to do, but luckily he just had a few straggly bits around his ears and a mullety bit at the back to cut off. I just sat him on my lap in front of Cbeebies when he was tired and chopped. He heard the scissors so kept turning round to see what was going on but it wasn't too bad as there wasn't much to chop. Don't know what I'll do when there's more to do. Perhaps strap him in the high chair.

My friend's little boy has really long hair and had to have a haircut at about 11 months. She took him to the local hairdressers who specialise in kids hair. Cost quite a lot but at least they are used to doing it.

depends on if you like the scruffy look (why do so many mums like the surfer look for their boys?!) or a bit more tidy. I hate the scraggy looking hair that so many girls have when they are toddlers when their hair is all different lengths but the mum wants long hair. Get it cut I say. lots of years for growing out nicely.

had to cut dd3's hair when she was about 8 months - she had so much of it. v cute now, she has a pixie cut and is nearly 3.

We had to wait till DS was asleep to cut his hair (he wasn't keen on scary, snippy scissors). Was easy when he was sleeping. Not a great job, but perfectly OK for a toddler boy, and so much better than the straggly mop he'd been growing (surfer look not really working on fine hair with a high forehead).
