I bought this dress for a big joint birthday party that we're having at home for the kids.

So......... what do you think of it? Please be honest - I think I like it, I think it looks nice on but I'm still not sure if its me and its not too late to take it back!

Looking forward to your replies

Tia

it's lovely - I assume it can be dressed up or down

squeaver · 29/04/2009 14:57

It looks nice. If you've got nice norks and olivey skin it'll be lovely.

squeaver · 29/04/2009 14:58

Or a good tan.

snowmummy · 29/04/2009 15:01

Or a good fake tan?

I was planning on wearing flip flops to dress it down. Is that ok do you think?

Liking the replies so far. Keep 'em coming

don't wear flip flops IMO

the print is nice - length looks a little in betweeny - be careful it doens't hit your legs mid calf ...

OrmIrian · 29/04/2009 15:06

Right - can I just hijack and ask what is wrong with mid-calf? I suspect that as an absurdly tall person most of my longer-length skirts do this. Worried now...

BTW dress is lovely.

snowmummy · 29/04/2009 15:14

Its knee length on me, just on the knee.

I had no idea there was anything wrong with mid-calf until I started browsing this forum!! Perhaps someone can enlighten me too

Oh what should I wear on my feet? I live in flip flops!

OP posts:
rubyslippers · 29/04/2009 15:15

basically it "cuts" your legs off so can make you look shorter

and for a short arse like me that is not a goooood look

overall i think the dress is very nice and knee length is lovely

bunnymother · 29/04/2009 15:17

I think its great - vibrant and sexy.

Re accessories, as it has a slightly "tribal" look to it (or maybe I am going on the name of the style...), I would recommend that style of accessory ie flip flops (if "formal" ie leather and poss bejewelled) or strappy heels, w some bangles and earrings. Bu keep them neutral, I think.

Agree that a tan (no matter how you get it!) is necessary for this dress.

rubyslippers · 29/04/2009 15:17

loads of ideas here and very reasonable

woodenchair · 29/04/2009 15:20

Nice dress! Just thinking it would great with flip flops actually.

You may want something higher for a party though, maybe some wedges?

woodenchair · 29/04/2009 15:52

how about these? are they your sort of thing?

legacy · 29/04/2009 16:03

Why on earth would the mother at a kids birthday party wear high shoes??

I'd imagine you'll be traipsing back and forth to the kitchen all the time? Go for comfort I'd say....

Lizzylou · 29/04/2009 16:05

Lovely dress, nice flipflops would be fine imo (maybe dressier shoes if you wear again for a night out).

MamacitaGordita · 29/04/2009 16:05

I like it and think you should definately go with the tribal feel accesories-wise. So leather sandals, gold gladiators or something like that. Although if you are short (like me) beware gladiators can cut you off at the ankle and shorten your legs.

Although I have my eye on a pair of fantabulous gladiators and they are so lovely I don't give a stuff if they make me look short! And def a nice fake tan.

stripeypineapple · 29/04/2009 16:06

Fab dress.

To stay casual wear with strappy sandals.

Calf length cuts your leg off at a fatter part thus emphasising a wide bit. If your skirt stops at your knees, where your legs (hopefully) go in a bit it will flatter the line of your silhouette. Calf length can be a bit mumsy too, I know we're all mums here but, you know, we don't want to look dowdy.

Hope you have good time

allson · 29/04/2009 16:09

flip flops are perfect with this dress.Laid back and elegant, make sure your toes are painted a nice colour.

fishie · 29/04/2009 16:11

it is a lovely dress. go with gladiators snowmummy. just as comfy as flips but much funkier.

i shouldn't think you have got to worry about stumpyleggedness orm. i'm 5'5" and have never had any problem with this either.

OllieWollieWoo · 29/04/2009 16:17

Really lovely dress. Shoes or sandals - whatever you are most comfortable in I say!

woodenchair · 29/04/2009 16:39

Have just reread your op and that it's for a kids party at your house, I would be tempted with flip flops too.

snowmummy · 29/04/2009 20:28

Thank you very much for your replies everyone.

I'm glad the consensus is that I can wear flip flops although I think I may have to buy some more formal ones as bunnymother suggested.

I'm also pleased that you all like it as I was a bit unsure and was on the verge of taking it back and wearing jeans and a top instead, as usual!
