Would you wear a current season dress from a popular shop to a wedding?

Is it risky to wear a current season dress from a a popular shop to a wedding?

I really like this Next dress but am worried another of the 180 guests may have it? Wedding is in 3 weeks. Alternatively, I have this Next dress wich Iwore to a wedding 2 years ago. It is lovely on, the green is much prettier than the picture shows.

Nobody from the first wedding will be at the second, but I really like the blue dress. WWYD?

I like the blue one
Do you know many of the guests? Are they next shoppers?

JustCallMeGoat · 28/04/2009 16:38

blue one is lovely. get it. everyone else will be wearing something from coast.

sagacious · 28/04/2009 16:39

I like that dress (the blue)I had considered buying it but the bow put me off!

Must admit I tend to play it safe with steer clear of distinctive patterns.

But I am dull dull dull

(I spotted 2 monsoon dresses the same at a wedding last year and a summer ball had 3 matching)

crokky · 28/04/2009 16:39

I'd wear whatever I wanted and forget about anyone else!

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 28/04/2009 17:07

I bought that blue one the other day - it's not here yet though.

princessmel · 28/04/2009 17:09

I LOVE the blue one

If money was an issue I'd wear the green one I already had.

TheGreatScootini · 28/04/2009 17:11

Yes.I am wearing a graphic print Oasis dress to a wedding in May.If I can ruddy find it anyway. It was in Grazia last week so now is sold out.

tiredemma · 28/04/2009 17:18

Greatscootini- what does it look like? I have bought a dress from oasis whch doesnt fit- it hs a fairly 'graphic' print on it.

TheGreatScootini · 28/04/2009 17:21

Is like a sort of eighties graphic print on a white back ground.Short sleeves.Actually i think it may even be a play suit but one that looks like a frock iyswim?

Overmydeadbody · 28/04/2009 17:22

I'd go for it, worst case scenario maybe one other person will be wearing it, and all it means is that you have similar taste! It doesn't really matter does it?

After all, all the man will be matching

Sgloop · 28/04/2009 17:40

Who cares?

Vaguely · 28/04/2009 17:52

i dont get what would be so awful about someone else wearing the same dress. unless they looked way better in it i spose.
i think if youre doing red carpet events and sporting £6K Missoni works of art, you might be a bit peeved at someone diluting your limelight or something by wearing the same dress, but at our pleb level i dont reckon it matters at all!

theyre both quite pretty imo, fwiw.

cupofteaplease · 28/04/2009 17:53

Thanks for the advice- I think I will go and try the blue one then.

Overmydeadbody- yes, all the men will be matching, that is a good point!

Sgloop- I care. It is my best friend's wedding and I want to look nice.

ah, its your best friends wedding. thats special, of course you want to look good. puts a different slant on it, that does.

i still like both dresses tho. [not helpful]

what about trawling about some posh-area-charity-shops and a branch or two of tkmaxx? less likely to stumble upon someone in the same thing that way, if that bothers you.

OllieWollieWoo · 28/04/2009 21:25

Wear the dress you look best in! Even if someone else is wearing the same - if you look and feel good in it, it doesn't matter. (Does that sound too preachy/Trinny and Suzannah/my mother like (!) - wasn't meant to be but I always think you can see at weddings those people who like and feel comfortable in what they have on and those that feel overdressed/underdressed/not quite right about their outfit!

Know that last year I ended up with an outfit for a wedding I didnt really like but couldn't find anything else - I felt pants all day and cringed when I saw the pics! Wished I had just gone with something in my wardrobe!

For what its worth, I really like the Next one! JCMG has a point re lotsa stuff from Coast tho!

Ewe · 28/04/2009 21:27

No way, unless I could be fairly confident that I would be the one looking the best.

BirdyArms · 28/04/2009 21:57

Agree with OllieWollieWoo that if you feel good it doesn't matter too much. I have worn the same outfit as another guest once and it didn't bother me too much, I don;t think one of us looked way better than the other which helped I guess. Also agree that Coast and also Monsoon and the places most people I know seem to get their wedding outfits from. I liked your old dress as well.
