Opinions on Cabot Circus, Bristol

Has anyone been shopping at Cabot Circus in Bristol?

Any good? Is it worth going there over the Mall at Cribbs Causeway?

I'm asking because I have a little windfall I want to spend on clothes for me, but more importantly, I want a really nice day out shopping by myself. I hardly ever get to do this, so it's very important to me that it's utterly wonderful and fantastic as it'll be about 18 months until the next time! Was thinking of Cabot Circus because I really want to go to Zara and I don't think there's another branch anywhere within reasonable reach.

So please give me your reviews, and also tell me where in the South West you would normally shop, so I know what you're comparing against!!

I went to Cabot Circus just before Christmas. I liked it, it's very well designed. I bought a coat in Next.

I don't particularly like the Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

Yes, go, a million times better than Cribbs. It's like going shopping in a town rather than a sterile, souless shopping centre. It's really well designed and the range of stores is excellent.

I am in SE Wales so I go to Cardiff, Cribbs and Bath normally. I also go to London regularly because I lived there for years and I really miss Selfridges [saddo emoticon]

We are a bit starved down here though aren't we? John Lewis opens in Cardiff this year though which will make a big difference.

If I was going on the train into Bristol Temple Meads, is it all walking distance from there?

(Sorry to sound like a total moron from the Wiltshire sticks who doesn't get out much... it's just that I erm... don't get out much )

Yes, you just turn right out of the station and follow the road to the right, probably about a 10 minute walk.

Cabt Circus is MUCH nicer than The Mall, I live a 5 min drive from The Mall and I would choose Cabot Circus everytime.

I went there before Christmas, I couldn't actually afford to buy anything but if you have a nice litte windfall I would recommend it.

There are loads of lovely restaurants there but we couldn't actually manage to get a table in any of them. If you can try and book a table when you get there.

I'm still hoping to go as my sister lives in Bristol and she says it is fab there but I never have enough funds to justify a trip!

Is much nicer than the mall. i especially like the outdoor bit where harvey nicks and some of the eating places are.

hettie · 28/04/2009 15:23

much nicer for a day out experience- nicely designed, lots of cafes and places to eat. Plus all the shops that you would get at the mall and a few others that aren't there (only thing you would miss would be john lewis).
You can walk from temple meads but it's all along busy roads.... there are lots of buses though.
you could have lunch at carlucios..... actualy it sounds bliss can I join you (am missing the windfall though )

I went there at Christmas, everything was very expensive, and in Ghost they told me they had a sale on but they were not allowed to put a sale notice in the window because of regulations. If you want just nice clothes it may be OK but if you want more general shopping may have to walk up to the normal shops at broadmead, which isn't very far. I picked up a crinkley men's cardi in Harvey Nics which I though would do at a push for DH if I couldn't find anything else - then I looked at the ticket and it was £900!!! Cheltenham is much nicer for shopping imho.

bluebump · 28/04/2009 15:32

Ahh, I lived in Cheltenham higgle so I love it there!

Wait til the end of May and then the new Outlet Village in Gloucester Docks will be open

misshardbroom · 28/04/2009 21:37

oh yes I saw something about this - what's meant to be opening there? I live in Swindon so we're a bit blase about Outlet Villages.

Rindercella · 28/04/2009 21:47

I really like Cabot Circus. I have been there a couple of times when visiting the ILs. The House of Fraser is v good too (got a couple of truly fab swimming costumes from there recently).

Have funny blowing spending your windfall

Rindercella · 28/04/2009 21:48

Have fun. Damn glasses of wine!

misshardbroom · 28/04/2009 21:56

Are you very near the new Gloucester outlet village, boysarelikedogs?

I think the trick is to pop in very frequently, and then you know when something new and exciting has arrived. They have good weeks & bad weeks! Also, I don't know what the Gloucester one is going to be like, but the Swindon one is one of the best free places for entertaining children and mummies in one fell swoop: you buy their compliance in LK Bennett and Hobbs with the promise of half an hour of them running round the play area... while you have a cup of coffee in peace. What's not to like?
