I know it's been done, but can I wear this to become a Godmother?

I'm going to a Christening next weekend, and as I'm about to become a Godmother (yay!) I need to get it right.

I have a dress from White Stuff very like this but in blue and bright green. Do you think I could get away with wearing it for the Christening rather than buy something else? I would wear it with bright green opaque tights, heels and green acccessories.

Thoughts? Too day-dress? Too wintery? OK? (please!)

I think that your White Stuff dress is very casual for a Christening. Remember that photos will be taken with other godparents/parents/baby and recorded for posterity - I would try to look fairly conservative and formal if I were you!

I have linked to this dress before - I think it is lovely and would look very godmotherly!

Oh bother. I was worried that would be the impression. I do have to get it right as there aren't any other godparents - just me and DH. God-daughter-to-be is nearly 2 too, so she's bound to be looking stunning!

Have you asked the mother what she and the baby will be wearing? You might use that as a basis to colour co-ordinate.

I wouldn't wear anything dark, as you will doubtless have photos taken outside the church and it is all green and blossomy at the moment - you want to blend in with the spring!

p.s. That is a lovely dress, but feeling signficantly strapped for cash just at the moment, adn still have Christening present to buy, which again has to be significant. Aggghhh!

Hadn't thought of asking the mum - thank you! She's lovely though and bound to just say encouraging things to make me feel better - "anything will be lovely" etc etc!

I would say wear what you think is appropriate they obviously know you and wouldn't expect you to change your dress sense just for a christening.

Personally I think the dress BA linked to would better suit the 2 year old.

I think the White Stuff dress would be fine for a christening and is certainly more conservative and formal than the Kew dress!
