Help... wearing a dress for Christening this weekend but my legs are covered in bruises.

I have no idea why. I must walk into things! Am not very girly so tend to wear trousers all the time and never worry about my legs. No chance of changing my outfit now... I thought about wearing tights but I don't own any and in any case I really hate the material they are made from, it makes me feel sick to touch it so not ideal!

My mum said nobody will look at my legs anyway but am thinking they might do. I was hoping the bruises might have faded by then but I appear to have acquired more since - what do I do?

How fancy/patterned is your outfit? Could you wear lace tights with it? Different texture from normal tights and great for disguising bruises.

thumbwitch · 27/04/2009 23:59

what about fake tanning them? It would tone down the bruises, if not disguise them completely.

gigglewitch · 27/04/2009 23:59

fake tan?
make up?
tights?

gigglewitch · 28/04/2009 00:00

witches think alike again

Fake tan - would never have thought of that! I was thinking of make up but thinking it might go horribly wrong! Is it easy to apply? I've never used it before.

Hmm... although would it look completely ridiculous, I am quite pale so would probably have to do my face/arms too, and I have a very sucky/bitey/drooly 6 month old who will be in a ring sling close to my arms!! Or do you think it would be ok just to do my legs? As it would look like I was wearing tights or something. Oh and (last question sorry!) how long beforehand would I have to do it? We are staying at a hotel with a swimming pool and I intend to make full use of it as it's included in the room rate. (I assume fake tan will not survive swimming!)

I am wearing this except it's in "Chocolate" so more brown, that one looks black on there.

Lace tights possible? Not really sure. I'm not a fan of lace either, though it's better than tights.

am no expert and am also a whiter shade of pale. but I do know it can go wrong so if you have time to practise, I would. you should be able to get away with just doing legs and pretending you are wearing tights, I would think. Or you could just use white paint concealer on the bruises on your legs instead!

gigglewitch · 28/04/2009 00:53

Love the dress! Well I am another whiter than white -and I never tan either, grr - and I find the Johnsons holiday skin' moisturising tan stuff works well. Smells more like body lotion and is well better 'than some of the stinky fake tans I've caught a whiff of on other friends Otherwise mousse varieties are easier to apply for the amateur (like me) after a good moisturising first.

know what you mean about the tights - I'm not a fan either. also way too 'girly' tbh - I would quite happily do skirt or dress with no tights though, but I suppose that's just a personal decision.

gigglewitch · 28/04/2009 00:54

oh - watch out for the 'barbie doll' look - lurvely orange legs and nice white rest-of-you

CherryChoc · 28/04/2009 01:05

Thanks gigglewitch So my shopping list is lots of moisturiser (skin is quite dry at the moment anyway, too much heating I think... or not enough water drinking) and some mousse type fake tan or johnsons holiday skin. And concealer in case it all goes wrong on the practice run!

There is a product I heard about a while back, and it is called spray on tights or something like that. It is a spray makeup for legs, that is supposed to give the result as it wearing tights.

Think this may be it:

wow J&G, I'm off to investigate that!! ta for the link!
Good luck Cherry (get some of the gloves too, latex or whatever they are like they use in hospitals, so you don't get ORANGE hands. Found that one out the hard way. not marigolds lol!)

BlueCowWondersAgain · 30/04/2009 02:10

Have you also thought of minimizing the bruises? You could take arnica or use the cream to make the bruises heal faster.

Wizzska · 30/04/2009 10:01

A last resort for me would be leggings if the bruises are really bad and your legs have gone too orange. At least they're not tights material but they might make your legs look stumpy depending on how long they are. Alternatively, not all tights are made from the nylony material that might be the thing that sets your teeth on edge. You can get woollier or cotton rich ones that might be slightly better, bit wintery perhaps. Lacy ones might be ok too.

I'm sure people won't pay any attention to your bruises anyway so you could always choose to relax and ignore them.

ilove · 30/04/2009 10:11

I LOVE your dress! I'd go and have a proper spray tan if I were you

stripeypineapple · 30/04/2009 10:25

That Sally Hanson stuff is fantastic. It comes in different shades too so is quite good for us milky whiters. Can well recommend it.

macherie · 30/04/2009 10:35

I often wear makeup on my legs in summer, as I'm very pale and hate the fake tan look. It looks great, like your skin has been photoshoped into perfection.

I use Barbara Daly's tesco oil free foundation - it's great and only a fiver a bottle.
