Fashion faux pas?

Bought this www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B001QKA0WQ/sr=1-15/qid=1240844800/ref=sr_1_15/277-5281427-4956756 ?ie=UTF8&node=&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n%3A43023030&page=2 at the weekend and wore it with a long sleeve tee over skinny jeans today. Do you think it's too dressy for a SAHM. One Mum let me know that she'd bought it for a night out and I was wearing it during the day. I really like the top but won't have any "social" occasion to wear it and so bought it and wore it anyway. Was I wrong and am I so far removed from current fashions that I've made a huge faux pas?

I don't think you've made a fashion faux pas - she was probably just jealous.

I have recently joined the school of thought that clothes are for wearing so now wear much 'dressier' clothes during the day as I know that I am never going to be wearing them on a night out! I don't want them to be hanging in the wardrobe unworn.

I agree with MissisBoot. Some people think that the only acceptable daywear is made of fleece. Don't be one of them. I bet you look fab

i like it very much but i know why you are asking the question - i dont think i would wear it in the day because of the sparkly top bit

but i dont think that is necessarily right - too many people wear drab boring clothes so why not wear somehting that makes you smile and look good?

HuwEdwards · 27/04/2009 16:33

I'm the opposite - I have a lovely top that I only wear on nights out - saw a mum dropping off at dance class on Sat morning wearing it with jeans, and she looked fab.

Lizzylou · 27/04/2009 16:34

I used to buy things and save them for a night out, never go anywhere and then they'd be out of fashion.
Wear it with pride, it is lovely

Hassled · 27/04/2009 16:36

I think it's lovely. And if you're comfortable wearing it in daytime (I would be) then just ignore nutter woman.

hobbgoblin · 27/04/2009 16:37

The only thing that would put me off is the shininess of the top bit.

I bought this as maternity day wear.

Am quite liking current M&S stuff, some of it is quite funky.

Phew! Was beginning to think I'd really lost the plot. Needless to say I'm in comfy, slouch mode now I'm home!

I woudlnt wear in day.

janeite · 27/04/2009 19:48

Hobbgoblin - I am so jealous as I've been trying to get my little paws on that Mary Poppins dress for ages. I have tried many stores and have only ever seen it once: the had one left, in a size 16 when I probably need a 10.

hobbgoblin · 27/04/2009 20:30

Oh well, mine is a 10 and may not fit much longer. Have only worn twice as it is?! Shall I CAT you when my bump threatens to explode?

janeite · 30/04/2009 16:54

Sorry - only just seen this. Better not - I am trying to be 'good' and not buy any new clothes right now. Congratulations on the bump!
