Have just joined the gym and doing mums on the run. I hate the gym and feel very self consious so have got ipod which helped today;. Im after some advice. Im after some hipster/flared (like yoga pants) style trousers which dont make you sweaty? I have some M&S ones which make me hot! Also what deodrant do you use when at gym?? I want a roll on that is VERY good for gym type sweating!! I have a personal trainer to get me on the right track..

Any other tips?

TIA

I would steer clear of baggy clothes at the gym and get some lycra going on your bottom half especially for running - and then wear a dri fit baggy top until you are ok to wear a vest. Baggy clothes will slow you down and trap air which will make you hot.

Nike have an online clearance web site which is pretty good and you can get running skins etc at some of the ebay shops cheaper than on the high street.

As for deoderant I have never used anything speacial but I do wash both DH and my running gear in biological powder or it can get rather whiffy over a period of time.

lycra?? Bit too body consious for lycra at the mo!

I agree with the lycra! I started with baggy pants and found that 1) they shrank til they were way too short and looked silly and 2) I could not see the difference the gym was making (so I was less motivated)

I wear the cropped tight pants (mine are pineapple) but than I only do Pilates, Yoga and Bodybalance so no running for me.

Sweat-wise, the classes I take are majprly sweaty but I just use nivea pearl something or other and this is fine, just wash my gym gear after each wear and it is fine.

Jewelsandgems · 27/04/2009 20:47

Meant are not majorly sweaty

go to tk maxx and look in the excercise clothing section and they have loads of yoga pants , just get a load and try them on..agree about the loose clothing making you hot.

mad4myboys · 27/04/2009 21:35

hmm ok maybe ill try to be brave. There are ALOT of yummy mummy/gym bunny types (which id love to be ) so i know its silly worrying about what i look like but i do. Bit sad really.

Some nice stuff here

agree, you don't want anything too flappy. Good bit of lycra to suck it all in!

mad4myboys · 28/04/2009 14:28

ok so if im going for shorter, tight trousers, which ones?? I dont want to look all lumpy and bumpy esp as my hips/thighs are out of proportion after birth, thats where all the weight is

BrendaAndEddie · 28/04/2009 15:39

MadameCastafiore · 28/04/2009 15:42

these are whatyou want - believe me no one cares what you look like at the gym. Just get some of these and wear a baggy long t shirt until you are more comfortable.

BrendaAndEddie · 29/04/2009 10:36

oh no to baggy t

Galava · 29/04/2009 11:56

Be prepared to throw your stuff out after a while.

It can get a bit pongy which even the best washing powder will fail to shift.

Dont do baggy.

TBH nobody really looks at what you are wearing ... unless its a big baggy T shitrt

Yoga pants are only good for yoga or travelling to and fro from the gym. If you are running or doing any major cardio work then, you need something tight and good at wicking the sweat away from the body (usually branded dry fit or clima dry). You can get away with something looser on top, but again if you get hot, make sure it is suited to the type of exercise you are doing to keep you cool. Treat yourself to some nice gym gear, you?ll be more inclined to go. Don?t worry at what others think. I doubt they are looking at you and even the most toned gym bunny will have a body hang up or two. If you?ve got time to look at what others are doing then you?re not giving 100% and doing yourself a disservice. Don't worry how you look, just think of how you want to look.
